When making my ressie for next Dec @ OKW I asked 1) NS and 2) near an elevator for medical reasons(told them 78 yr old mom has heart condition). The CM said that she wrote it all down, but when I got my confirmation the requests are listed but nothing said about medical reasons. I am really serious about the medical necessity of these requests. Should It be on my confirmation ? Should I call or email them to be sure it is listed as medical? Thanks for everybody 's help !

I would call to check on it, since it is for medical reasons, but I would specify elevator building OR first floor, since you will have a far better chance of getting that than just an elevator building. There are only 3 buildngs at OKW with elevators, but ALL the buildings have easy access 1st floor/walkin from the street rooms.

I have severe asthma so I have to have non-smoking. it is always listed on my confirms as no-smoking for medical reasons. If it doesn't say this they will not guarantee you will get it.

I would call and ask for a new confirm that states this

I would call/e-mail to double-check it is noted correctly. Sometimes I have had parts of my requests left off the confirmation for space reasons because DVC printed in some special messages. The requests were in the computer but not on the paper.

If you ask by e-mail, then you should have a written notice saying they have your requests noted. ;)

yes call back and make sure that medical reason is listed first - if it is after the room controller has taken care of the handicapped - your request will next in line.

Mother is 82 and can't do the steps easily either - so most of the time I asked for a first floor (when she is traveling with me) - also state no handicapped. Mother hates the handicapped - does like the shower curtain and says the toilets are too high. where I hate there not being a tub.

When I got my first confirmation for my Dec trip...it just said non smoking..I called back and stated that it was for medical reasons...just received my updated confirmations...it did state medical reasons...

One of the studios we are going to have this Thanksgiving trip will have a blind couple. That was told when ressies were made. The confirmation did not have that. I got worried, so I called MS and that note of the couple being blind and having service dogs was not on our confirmation; it was in the computer but just did not make it to the confirmation.

We take our 90 year old Aunt to OKW and need certain requests for her and one is medical. We have a great guide and I call her and ask her to call reservations and tell them how important it is for us and we have always received our request. Hope this helps

I called member services and the CM said that it could be in the computer even tho it is not on my confirmation, but... she added to the ressie that these were medical requests because she couldn't find it anywhere. Also said that she would send out a new confirmation with medical request clearly stated. Thanks everone!

We make a medical request everytime we go (DH is visually impaired and needs to be close to the elevator or , as he says, I'll be wandering around here forever!") and its never on the confirmation but is in the computer and has been honored everytime.

WE have had to make a few medical necessaity requests when bringing my nephew as he is autistic and is very sensetive to sound. We asked for a fifth floor in a quiet section of the BW.
This was not on the confirmation but when we arrived it was in the computer. One thing to remember is that when putting in a request put the most important feature you require first as that is what they will try to accomadate first.

DD is asthmatic and getting a n/s room is mandatory. Any other requests that we make are optional as long as they get us in a n/s room. We have yet to be disappointed.:smooth:

From what we've been told:
Wheelchair accessible rooms are guaranteed if requested. At the time of the reservation, they actually assign a room.
Medical Requests are not guaranteed, but are filled before any general quests are filled. So, if something is listed in DVC'c computer as a Medical Need, you will almost always get it.
Our confirmation for March doesn't give the specifics of what we requested, but it says "Medical Challenges" and when DH called to check, all our needs were listed in the computer. We've been members of DVC at OKW for 11 years and only once had a problem getting what we needed. But, that was 10 years ago, it was not listed as a medical need and we arrived after midnight and we got a second floor room. We carried DD up the stairs for that night, but the next day they moved us without charging us a room change fee since we had told them when we made the reservation that we had a person with a wheelchair and they missed it. We kind of figured that they would know wheelchairs don't do stairs, but the desk CM told us to make sure in the future that our reservation said "Medical Need" and we haven't had any problems since then.

we did and everything worked out great.

On our last trip (first one home) we not only took our 18 month old daughter but also my 72 year old MIL and 65 year old FIL who has a grocery list of health problems that needed to me met i.e. oxygen, wheelchair, hospital bed.

The CM's at OKW were fantastic and everything was all set up for us when we got there. We had to wait for our room but that was a small price to pay for the peace of mind we got.

Make sure that you tell MS up front that you have a person with special medical needs and they will take it from there.

Happy I found this and the DISabilities board before we left.
