and not have pain when you walk on it? About 2 weeks ago I took quite a fall and ended up hitting the outer edge of my right foot on a table. It hurt A LOT! Gradually over the next several days I was able to put my full weight on it and basically stopped worrying about it.

Well 2 days ago I thought it looked swollen when I got up in the morning. By this morning I was sure it was swollen. My toes looked like little sausages and it now is starting to hurt again.

While I realize that the only way to know for sure if I may have broken a bone in that foot is to see an MD and get an X-Ray, I'm wondering if I'd be able to walk on it with a break.

Anyone else ever go through something like this?

Years ago my grandmother fell and hurt her foot. The next day she felt better (although sore) and thought very little of it. A few weeks later her foot began swelling and getting red and becoming really painful so she went to the doctor. He sent her for x-rays and sure enough she had broken it. Since it had gone so long untreated they had to do surgery to help it heal. So to answer your question (the long way-sorry) yes, you can break it and not really know. Good luck, I hope you feel better soon!

You sure can. Stop walking on it right now! Tomorrow call your regular doctor and they can order the x-ray and refer you if needed afterwards. I did the same thing (almost, I was jumping a fence) years ago and I could walk on it for several days before it hurt. I was luckey in that I did not displace the bones by walking on it. I still spent some quality time on crutches though... yuck. Sorry, a broken foot is no fun.

My son walked for a whole day on a broken leg! It is a myth a broken bone can not take weight, and it is also a myth that broken bones will hurt more if you move them. That is only true if they are also displaced. Swelling and a bruise sometimes let you know, but when my son broke his leg there was no swelling and no bruise. Just pain a day after he did it.

When he broke his arm (yeah same kid) he had normal motion. Even the school nurse thought that meant it was not broken. But I learned with the leg to get an x-ray when in doubt.

Yes!!! My mom broke her arm. Everyone told her it wasn't broken because she could move it. It felt better after a couple days so she thought nothing of it. A week later it starting hurting again so she decided to go to the DR. Sure enough it was broken. I would get it checked out.

Absolutely yes.

And walking on it depends on the break. I broke my metatarsals (longer bones in your foot right befor the toes) on several occasions. I was allowed to fully weightbear each time. But it would depend on what bone you fractured and how it was healing.

I've broken A LOT of bones. One time I was running from my fathers dog and hit my elbow on the bathroom door, it hurt for a little while and then I was fine, a week later I started getting this pain and went to the dr and sure enough it was broken. I was jumping rope and playing like a typical kid for a week before I noticed.
