Medical Insurance

Hi might I add a suggestion? a local insurance broker here has come up trumps for a few of my clientele with similair problems, his name is John Moppatt and his number is 01837 52268, he MAY (and I emhasise the MAY) come up with a better deal for you

Thanks I have given him a ring will let you know.

Gave him a ring and he is a very nice chap. Agreed with me that our last insurers probably got it wrong, although had I known that I wouldn't have booked this holiday I would have waited until next year. He came up with another quote which is a bit more but without the £1500 excess so I may yet go with that depending on what the difference actually is (have to wait for dh as he spoke to M & S).

Anyone who's had a heart attack and thinking of going to the US I would say hold fire for 12 months unless you don't mind paying extortionate insurance premiums - thats providing you can get it. I spoke to Boots today and they wouldn't insure him for 3 years and Saga wanted £359, I think we will be lucky if we get it under £200.

We have private health care through BUPA and they wouldn't even give us a quote for our DS to go on holiday to US. Made me so angry . DS broke his neck in 2001 and is now paralised. I phoned ESURE and said before I go any further here is my sons condition and he said STOP ... by all means tell me and Iwill log it but under the disability discrimination act NO insurance company is allowed to deny you insurance. Well BUPA def. did !!! ESURE gave us a family policy for son 15, DS 20, Husband and myself .- £100 :)

I had heard Boots the chemist was good as was M & S but would def. try Tesco now.

Tried the Post Office this evening and they have insured his heart attack for £111, so I am well pleased with that. I am not sure if you have to take out their ordinary travel insurance as well as this was done through the medical line, I am hoping not as we have all the usual travel insurance with our bank so it would be and extra £56 but still am pleased even so.

Has your DH got a credit card. Ours (Alliance & Leicester) gives free travel insurance. I had to notify them of a medical condition which they excluded from the policy as it was pre-existing but everything else was fine. Hope this helps.

I have tried Tesco for my Dad who is 83 and had a mini stroke 5 months ago which he is recovering from, but he has Atrial Fibrillation (irregular hearbeat) and high blood pressure (controlled with medication) and takes a cocktail of tablets every day, including warfarin. Tesco gave us a quote of £440 which is the best I can find....medicare wanted £1200 and spirit £810
his age combined with his medical problems make it almost impossible to get insurance as most companies will not cover people over 80...he has been going to disneyworld at least 2/3 times a year for the last 20 years and this is his first medical insurance problem
Thanks to the boards ....as I would never have thought of tesco

I haven't tried them as I didn't know about them but our wheelchair company have just told us FISH insurance to travel insurance for people with medical issues.

my mum has just had a mini stroke three weeks ago and we have already booked for next July. fingers crossed we can all go plus get her insurance.
