Hi Everyone.
I've listened to the show for years, but never posted on the boards. I hope I'm in the correct area to ask this question, My brother in law is coming to Disney World, later this year, he has an existing Medical condition, which can cause him to take fits. I'm wondering if it's possible to put his medical information on a Magic Band ? If not, is there any way he can, or should, inform Disney Cast members of his condition ? He will be with his Wife and very young, Son, and she is concerned there may be an incident in the parks. I have told her how great Disney is at handling this kind of thing, but just wondered if there was any more advice you could give me ? Thanks in advance.

My mother had Alzheimer's and she could have unexpected issues. Anyway, we kept a card that was business card size with her conditions and the possible problems that could occur like swearing. We used this mostly for those who where near us to let them know without creating a scene.

Also, we carried a doctor's note explaining her condition and possible situations that could occur.

there is no way to put information on the Magic Bands. I would have a medical ID with the information on it. but unless the person is awake at all CM will not look at it. ( I know from experience) I do not think he need to inform the Cast members of his problem as he would just be telling it to every one he see. I would just stay close to other family member who know the medical problems. Disney is great about medical problems

:welcome: to the DISboards!

If your BIL has a condition severe enough that he/his wife is concerned about informing others, he may want to look into getting a Medic Alert bracelet or similar. Emergency Services responders are well-trained in looking for one and many have ability to connect with more detailed health records. Generally CMs at WDW will call for assistance if it's needed, but will not do anything "medically" to treat him. Assuming he does not plan to go off alone and will be with his wife, she will be able to give some cursory information should an incident occur. The MagicBands are not equipped to provide access to that type of personal information.

If you are asking about accommodations for his needs, you can find more information on the disABILITIES FAQ thread and the first post of the WDW - Disability Access Service thread, both are pinned near the top of this forum.

Enjoy your vacation!

WOW! I'm in the same boat with the too-much-information-for-a-traditional-bracelet, but didn't know the USB ones existed! The things you learn on the DISBoards!

I wanted to add this, in case it's relevant. I don't know what your brother-in law's condition is, but I know that some people who have seizures (the American word for fits) can have their seizures triggered by flashing lights. *IF* this does happen to be the case with your brother-in-law, this guide contains a list of attractions with flashing lights. The guide is meant for guests with cognitive disabilities, but the attraction list can be helpful for people with other issues, too.

Thank you, never heard of these. DS has too much info for his bracelet so I have to pick priority and he hates to wear it.
I see a USB one that actually looks like a MagicBand, he'll love that.
Ordering today.

THANKS!!! :thanks:

I only have time for a quick reply.
Many health care providers (hospitals, clinics, etc. ) will not use these, so I would not count on it providing any information.

The reason is security - USB devices are a big way that computer viruses can be introduced into the facilities' computer system.

First providers (EMS, etc.) are not likely to take the time to try to open one even if they are allowed. Many EMS are also using tablets and don't even have a USB port to put a USB device into.

The basic information any first responder needs would be on s Medic Alert bracelet or tag. That organization has a 24 hour a day 800 number and you add things in, like your Doctor contact info.

In my excitement I guess I didn't think that through. Guess we'll stick with what we have and hope it's never actually an issue. He's mobile but non-verbal so you won't get much out of him. He's never left alone so we don't have his bracelet registered. But as I get older (and we travel alone together alot), I'm thinking if something happens to me, who will give his info.

Thank you!!

I know it's kind of obvious, but don't forget to "ICE" your phone. In my ICE (In Case of Emergency) contact entry, I have a list of all of my medical issues, ALL of the meds I take, my doctors contact info, and of course, my family members contact info.

Since many phones are locked now, (including mine most of the time) I have also started using the "Medical ID" feature on my iPhone (found in the Health App). I just make sure that "Show When Locked" is turned on, so that first responders could use my information stored in my phone.

The iPhone feature is great and I also have Medic Alert and have my # and their phone number on the lock screen. call Medic Alert at 1-800 etc. Great feature.
