Medical Emergencies

On a couple of previous trips - several years ago now - we have had occasion to go to the Emergency Room at the hospital in Sarasota for minor treatments. As visitors from the UK, we had to pay 'up front' for these treatments and then claim back from our insurance.

Now, not that we are planning on having any medical emergencies during our trip, which starts next week, but can anyone tell me if there is a choice of hospitals in Orlando, and if so, which one we should go to. For instance, do some provide better service, are some less expensive etc.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

there is a walk in health care center close to WDW - Centra Care...you also pay up front, but it's less expensive than an emergency room...

but we've never used it...i prefer to use the doctor house call service that comes right to your hotel room...i think it's also run by centra care..
the housecall service is more expensive than the walk in center, but it's more convenient and i don't have to worry about being exposed to everyone elses diseases....

we have always asked reception (at the disney resorts) and they've called the service for us...

We used one not too far from International drive (if I remember correctly it was somewhere behind one of the Quality Inns), when DS had his first reaction to peanuts! they were great. Did not pay any money, told them I did not have a credit card and they should contact my insurance company direct - this is what they did and all dealings went direct through them.

We had learnt this the hard way when on the trip before this eldest DS had a convulsion and it took almost a year to get the full and final payment form holiday insurance, so now if we need medical treatment we just get them to contact insurance direct - after all that is what we pay for insurance for!

we have been twice to florida first time we had to go to i think sand lake hospital which is not far from international drive, ds had fell of a ride and knocked his tooth up(only 2yrs old so was baby tooth) silly old me forgot to take insurance docs...had to use mil cc.but only took a cple mths. 2nd time they all got chickenpox-great stuff! had to call doctor out-gave them insurance details and was sorted that way(we ended up staying an etra 5 days free) woohoo Just wondering what will happen this time! lol

My sister was once taken ill in the parks and I believe it was Centra Care they took her to for her treatment.

i had to use centra care! my toenail came off after i stubbed my foot. they picked me up from pop had to pay up front and they gave me a lift back!. we had to wait awhile but we were back in the parks by 1pm so not too shabby considering the a and e wait here.

when DH took ill we had to call 911 and they took us to the hospital on Turkey Lake Road. We had to pay upfornt and then claim back the money when we got home so it made a serious dent in out finances to the tune of $1800 . So please always be insured as even the little stuff costs so much over there. but the care was spot on!
