I can hardly wait--we will be going in 10 days! Needless to say, I'm excited and frazzled trying to get ready.

It seems I read on this board awhile ago about some sort of medical service that would send a doctor to your room in your hotel. I also read about pharmacies that deliver. While we are all healthy and don't anticipate any medical problems, it would make me feel better to have the names of such facilities, just in case. Does anyone have the name/phone number of such services? I believe it was called "Docs on Call". Of course, we could always ask the hotel for assistance (we're staying at WL), or just use the phone book. I always take any type of OTC meds I think we might need, and a first aid kit with band aids, neosporin, a thermometer (we have two kids), and while I can't say I've used everything I've taken (thank goodness!), I've always had everything I've needed. Better prepared than sorry!

We ended up needing the services of Centra Care our 1st 2 trips with DD (whe she was 9 months old and then again at 23 months.) 1st time she had an allergic reaction to penicilin and we were staying at Poly. The resort was great about helping us. We chose to go to Centra Care since is was much cheaper then having the Dr. come to your room (I think it cost around $100) Centra care came and picked us up, had a care seat in the van and all. The driver stayed with us and took us to the pharmancy. (we also ran into the grocery store next door and subway while there).

The second trip it was an ear infectin that sent us there. Same driver again! (I recomend getting the driver, even if you have a car since there are a number of different centers and they send you to the least busy one.) They fixed us up nicely both times.

Since then we joke any trip with out a stop at centra care is a good one, but really those trips we went to Centra Care was good too!

It gives me piece of mind knowing they are there. Our insurace didn't pay for it, but it was money well spend. To be on the careful side you can call your insuance before you leave and find a place they do cover.

On our trip last December, we wound up taking our then 18 month old to Centra Care on Apoka Vineland Rd (think that is the proper name). We had our car, so we drove there, but I hear they will pick you up. The night we were there, they closed at midnight. They accepted our health insurance (horizon Blue Cross/Blue Sheild). There was a pharmacy attached to it on the other side of the building that was also open ( It was midnight by the time we got the prescriptions filled). The only bad thing, they didnt except our prescription plan and we had two to pick up. (DD had a bad cough for 2 nights and the OTC cough medicine didn't help).
Everyone, especially the pharmacist, was very friendly and helpful. Hopefully, this trip, we wont be back there!! :flower:

There are Walgreens all over the place in Orlando. We had to have our doctor call in a prescription for our DS5 last year. The Walgreens was less than a block away from our resort, so we ask for a card before calling the doctor to make sure we had the correct phone number. They were very helpful.

On my summer trip I thought my son was getting an ear infection. I went to the 24 hour Walgreens on 192 and I drive south. They gave me their number to have a pediatrician phone in a prescription. I am a nurse and my ped would ahve prolly phon3ed in something if I thought i needed it. Luckily nothing was needed. During my halloween trip i was there getting motrin and cold stuff cause my daughter didnt like the flavor of motrin i had. You need a car to get there but it is a great location especially for us since we were staying at the pop, about a 5 minute drive.

Can an out of state Dr. phone in a Rx? When I was there I called our Ped and he said he was not able to phone in a Rx to FLA. Maybe it is just a Michigan thing. That is why we needed to go to centa care.

I dont knowi didnt need to go that route. I just took the number in case.

We had to use the in-room care when we were there in October. Belle decided to spike a fever during MNSSHP and pass out on splash mountain. It was too late to get to the urgent care center so we had someone come out to POR. It was $195 and he was the nicest guy! He came out around 1am and was there for about 45 minutes. They carry meds with them and can give you all the papers you need to file with your insurance company.

Last January, we flew down on day 1 of DS's ear infection. Mother of the Year (that would be yours truly) forgot his meds, in the car, at long term parking!!! He had 2 doses in him, so off we went, hoping for the best. I called our peds (in MA) first thing the next morning, and they pulled his chart. We found a Walgreens (behind the Premium Outlets, next to the new Publix) got a card, and had a new script phoned in. The pharmacist could NOT have been any nicer. He even waited to mix the Amoxicillan til we got back, since our insurance declined the second script in 2 days. It was only $18, but I appreciate his attention.

Good Luck, and I hope you don't have to take ANY of this advice!

Maybe it does vary by state, but our's had no problem calling one from Tennesee to Florida. Is it possible your doctor's office just wasn't very cooperative? It might be worth asking your own GP to confirm what the Ped said.

Turner's Drugs will deliver to your WDW hotel front desk for $5 charge.

The front desk does the payout, and adds the bill to your room charge...so you don't even have to be there:)
