Medical Advice?

I just had a friend who came back into the changeroom after hockey, and while the other coach was talking he looked down and his hands were beginning to turn purple. Soon, it spread to his face and they eventually turned black. One of the parents just happened to be a doctor and inspected him while the ambulance was on its way. He said it was not a heart attack, but it was vascular. My dad took his wife to the hospital and they're running their tests now. Anyone have any clue what's wrong with him?

So sorry to hear this Lady! Sending many well wishes your friend's way. I don't want to speculate, because I am not a doctor...but doesn't this happen when cells die? Could he have been bitten by a poisonous spider or other insect?

Not sure.. He was in an arena for the whole game, then just after, it started in the chnageroom..

there is some kind of condition where your immune system attacks your vascular system...forgot what it is called

Raynauds syndrome I believe does this in extreme form. Could be vasulitis. The extremities turn either blue or white also there are others looking up for spelling.

There is many things it can be. Trying to second guess only can lead to misinformation. Better to take the wait and see affect.

I'll ask my mom. She is a nurse. That's why I have alot of medical knowledge. I don't think it's frostbite though, doc. Frostbite doesn't involve blackening of the skin. Frostbite makes your skin whitish I think.

I am not saying this condition is frost bite or not, sounds too serious to speculate what it is or is not to me, but in severe Frost bite the skin does indeed turn BLACK.

Frostbite: Symptoms & Signs

The first symptoms are a "pins and needles" sensation followed by numbness. There may be an early throbbing or aching, but later on the affected part becomes insensate (feels like a "block of wood").

Frostbitten skin is hard, pale, cold, and has no feeling. When skin has thawed out, it becomes red and painful (early frostbite). With more severe frostbite, the skin may appear white and numb (tissue has started to freeze).

Very severe frostbite may cause blisters, gangrene (blackened dead tissue), and damage to deep structures such as tendons, muscles, nerves, and bone.

I stated that I was in no way going to speculate one way or another what condition Lad's friend has because it sounds too serious for speculation. If I did not make that clear in my first post, forgive me.

Thanks for the advice everyone. My dad phoned and said that he was going to be out of the hospital this evening. It was not frostbite, but it was his heart medication interfering with his veins. The blood wasn't getting through.

Ok sorry. I'm not an expert on some medical things. I know about frostbite, I guess I just forgot. I knew frostbite causes gangrene. By the way, frostbite comes in degrees: first, second, and third, just like burns. But there is a fourth degree burn as well, so there might be the same with frostbite. Amber is right though. Frostbite is caused by long exposure of skin to cold. Unless the change room is extremely cold, I don't think he has frostbite. I'm waiting for my mom to come home from whereever she is so I can ask her. I've read her medical books but I don't recall reading anything about what Magical said.
Edit: Oh didn't see MagicalLadee's post. So I don't have to ask my mom anymore. Yay for your friend!
