Mechanics of checking in with DDP?

Hi all,

I just had an epiphany that the DDP would work for us given our dining plans this trip. I did call MS and I did add it. However, I have a question ...

I know I get charged upon check in. But how? Does the cost go on my room as a room charge? Does Disney bill my CC separately? How?

The reason is that I also have a bunch of credits to use with my Disney Visa card and if I don't spend them all on extras in the parks, I would like to apply the remaining credits to the cost of the DDP. Can I do this?

As I recall, you pay for it immediately upon check in.

I used my rewards credits to pay for part of the dining plan at check-in and put the rest on my VISA. The remainder was charged to my VISA immediately, it did not go on the room charge balance. You wouldn't be able to see if you have credits left and apply them to the dining plan later.

I'm not sure they give you the option to put it on the room charge. The two times I used it, it was charged immediately. Tickets are the same way.

Was it part of the balance paid on checkout day? Mine still showed up on the room charge list, but it it was charged immediately and was not part of the final balance.

Charged at check out. I also had a credit since there was an ongoing problem with the whirlpool they just couldn't seem to get fixed and ultimately had to change rooms but they didn't have one until the next day. They offered (I didn't ask) a free dinner or a credit, I thought it was generous and approached reasonably considering they issues were on their end.

MS told me I could not use my Visa rewards to pay for the DDP. I asked if the charge would be put on my room and they said no.

But you know those CM's, each one has a different story.

A friend used the Visa Rewards to pay for her entire dining plan in April and I used the balance on the card towards my dining plan in June.
