Measuring yourself question (m)

When you measure inches/cm's, do you pull the measuring tape tight or leave it loose (but still touching skin....not leaving gaps between tape and skin)? I realize that either way, it should be consistant each time but is one way easier than the other?

For my first measurement, I did the loose, since that way I'm getting what I thought was a more "accurate" measurement....I wouldn't be reducing inches by pulling it tight. And my plan is to always measure loose. But what I had a hard time doing was making sure I wasn't accidentally tightening it without realizing it. Or if I stand a different way, totally relax, etc, they can all have different effects on my inches (esp in my waist and bust area). So my measurements may not be consistant after all.

So now I'm thinking that I consistantly pull the tape tight, there will be no accidental differences in my method. Granted, my "measurement number" would be lower than what it really is because I'm "losing" inches by pulling it tight, but I'm not interested in looking at the whole number....I just want to see the change from one week to the next.

Does that make sense? How do you measure....Loose or tight? Thanks!

I measure loose, but I had wondered the same thing.

Hope you don't mind if I ask another question in your thread, but its on the same topic. I was curious if there was some sort of standard for what measurements people count when they say they've lost xx inches. Obviously the more measurements you take, the faster that number would add up.

I keep it "loose" but touching.

Sorry I cannot answer the second question posed. I have not ever added total inches so I don't know what consists of the total.
