Good morning everyone!

Looks like a beautiful Saturday morning here in Richmond. Blue skies, sun and 64 degrees. Half of Richmond will be at RIR for the NASCAR race so I'll be dead at work - which means one thing. I'll push myself into the ground with "projects". I'm my own worst enemy...lol

I hope everyone else has much more fun plans for the weekend. I think my dogs do. As I sit here, the 4 of them are one big furry lump rolling around and wrestling on the doggie beds. I get the feeling they will have the best weekend!

Which brings me to today's question of the day. Pets!

What kind of pets do you currently have or have you had in the past - multiple choice. And while you're here, tell us about them!

:thumbsup2 we have a cat named Shadow rescued from a shelter we adopted him at Pet Smart, he's a tom cat and wild and lot's of fun. someone had adopted him and brought him back in the 1 month time frame. I think they were mean to him. we also had a bird , gray cockateal and she just passed away last week, we had her 20 years, she's lived in Indy, Chicago and all over Central,IL. dd12 now want's a puppy......... :rolleyes1

Current pets are 2 labs, 1 yellow and 1 choc, and a fish tank.

These dogs are my furry kids. The yellow one is DS17's baby. She is the ball player, and has a penchant for eating socks, garden gloves, kitchen rags...just about anything she can get her mouth on. She has had 2 surgs to remove items from her tummy...1 was a sock,1 was a garden glove. She has eaten other things that get cut up by the mower...if you know what I mean. :sad2:

The choc one was supposed to be mine. I got her after my sweet lab/golden mix passed. She however bonded with her yellow "sister", and my DS14. She has a strange personality, looks like a table...a rectangle with legs. She loves attention, will stick her head under your arm and flip your hand over her head to get you to pet her. The yellow one is alpha...so she thinks, till Mom lets it be known who the boss really is. Both have their little dances that they do when they are happy to see you...both bring you "gifts" when you come home...both want to be "baby" and sleep in the kitchen kennel...

I would love to get a 3rd...but DH is really against it. The yard is big enough, but he thinks 2 is plenty...he might be right if the yellow one keeps having to have sockectomies...they are really expensive!

Now that I live in a more populated area (and due to severe pet dander allergies in myself and DD), I am limited on pets. But I was raised on a small farm. I had lots of dogs, mostly beagle and beagle mixes but I did have to Irish Setters (that I loved so much). I had 4 or 5 cats at one time. Everything lived in or around the barn, so the allergies were not an issue.

And I forgot to check other, but I also raised two calves on the bottle. I got up early and fed them before school, then again in the evening. The whole nine yards. Then, that next fall...we ate them! That was farm life, you learned not to get too attached to pets. :lmao:

We currently have a dog, a Jindo (and sea monkeys, God help me :lmao: ). We started w/ fish, then moved up the food chain through the rodent family before graduating to the dog. No cats, I'm allergic. Did you know that taking the guinea pig to the vet costs MORE than the guinea pig did??? :rotfl2:

I had a horse when I was a teen and I had a lovely parakeet, but one morning, while I was loading my car to go back to college, a stray dog got in my house and ate him. While I was yanking his tail to pull him out from under my bed. Very traumatic, I'm scarred for life.

Grew up with lots of dogs and cats. No pets now. Three kids are enough to keep us occupied!

I have always had a cat. Right now we have 2 dwarf hamsters (Pudgy and Gimli), a leopard gecko(Stickey) and of course a cat (Mufasa or Mumu).

I meant to reply to this thread last weekend but things just seemed to get out of control.

This is one of my favorite topics. I have 2 dachshunds, Phoebe and Gretchen, and 2 cats, Bud and Strawberry. I used to laugh at people who pampered their pets, now I'm one of them. Phoebe is a black and tan miniature long-hair, 5 yrs old, and Gretchen is a black and tan miniature short hair, 3 yrs old. Gretchen has only lived with us for 6 months and was rescued from a kennel. After 2 live litters, she lost a 3rd and had to be spayed. We found her and love her dearly though it's sometimes been a struggle. She had never worn a collar or leash, or had been in the house as a pet. She didn't know anything about treats or about being loved. Of course, now she understands all of those things.

Phoebe is spoiled rotten and adorable, and she knows it. Her favorite spot is on a lap being petted. She almost died at 3 mo. - and became a very, very expensive dog, at a time when money was really tight. For me, she came at a bad time in my life, and was therapy instead of taking pills!

When I was growing up we had two dogs, Cindy & Jemma and two birds, Peter and Paul. Later on we got two goldfish called Mulder and Scully, a guinea pig called Guinness and, when Jemma died :(, another dog called Bobby who's still alive with mum. Later still there were two more goldfish - Obi Wan & Richey James.

When I moved in with a now ex, they had two dogs, Ollie & Pippa and two cats, Stella & Artois. The cats weren't liked in that house so I really bonded to them as I fed them and was the only one who let them sleep on my bed and fussed them!

Now I've left that house (and sadly left the cats behind) I have two cats called Jinx & Tinkerbell. There's a packet of Sea Monkeys in a cupboard somewhere that's many many years old, reckon they're still alive? I don't know what to do with them!

We have 2 cats & 3 dogs. The cats, Fish & Maggy, are in the house. Fish is a Mainecoon cat that we adopted from the shelter (not knowing he was a Mainecoon). He weighs over 20 pounds. Maggy was part of a litter who was set out by the side of the road for someone to run over. :furious: A friend of ours picked them up and called us to come and get her. She was only 3 weeks old at the time, and so she "bonded" with me. We think she thinks I am a cat. Fish is DH's cat, and Maggy is mine. They are both around 7 years old--Maggy has only made it to 4.5 pounds. They are quite a combo!

We got 2 golden retriever puppies almost 3 years ago. We had just moved into our new house, and we had a fenced in backyard. I had a miscarriage right after we moved. As a sort of divine puppy intervention, a little girl I coached offered us these two purebred puppies for free. Their names are Buster & Keaton--they are wonderful! We recently adopted another dog from the shelter--a Lab mix named Lucy--intending for her to be an inside dog. She fell in love with the outside and the other 2 dogs, so she moved herself outside with them. She is about 5 months old, and as DH says, she is "pure joy" all of the time! :)

Everyone thinks we are  with our animals, but they are our furry kids! Is it any wonder that Animal Kingdom is my favorite park???? :rolleyes1

We have a almost 6 yr old yellow lab, Bailey. She's the best!!!!! :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 We love her like she was another kid. My then 3 yr old son would pick her up by her tail when she happened to get in his way. I guess he thought her tail was a handle. He use to tackle her too. Then nature took over. Bailey outweighs the ds. She's never growled or nipped anyone.

We had a kennel growing up - St. Bernards, Bassett hounds, Lhasa Apsos, various cats, birds, fish, turtle and the old one of the bunch goats named Mable and Molly. LOL
