Has anyone posted a question only to receive mean and snarky replies? I've noticed a few of these replies today and it makes me sad. :sad2: Why do some people add their 2 cents just to insult someone? What is with that: isn't the idea to help?

So, has this ever happened to you?

It happens A LOT on the CB. If you are not in the majority then people seam to have this gang mentality a lot of the time. Sad indeed.

Has definitely happened to me before. The CB can be very "cliquey".

maybe they are trying to humor themselves?
maybe it is lack of satisfaction in life or feelings of inferiority? don't worry about it....you are fine.

This has not happened to me on this message board, but it has happened on another message board. I think that while most people on message boards are good decent folks, there is a significant percentage who are on mbs bec they are so rude and mean IRL that they have no social outlet and the internet serves that function. They get to be mean and rude without any real repercussions AND they are able to find others just like them, which further cements their belief that they are doing the right thing leading to a mob mentality.

meh...it's a message board. I generally try not to let things in cyberspace get to me.

Not everyone is going to agree with everyone else. Not everyone is having a good day and may be feeling a little snarky or frustrated...the "advice" may not be what the OP wants to hear, but it could still be good advice.

And lastly, snarky is in the eye of the beholder. Unfortunately one cannot tell inflection or tone in the written message.

I find the CB to be very judgmental sometimes.

And then I find myself wondering if some people know how to read.

But then I try to just sit back and laugh at their stupidity. If you don't want to read things correctly and still cast judgement then I'm not going to bother myself with anything they have to say. It's not worth my time.

You know, I was not even talking about the CB. This is my first time posting here. I guess I better be careful.

The posts I read were in areas like trip planning and restaurants and the OP's just asked for advice and were, basically, ridiculed. I may be a little -:hippie: - but jeesh, can't we all be nice?

I haven't, personally. I've seen it happen and felt really bad for the poster. Then there are the occasional threads dragged out of obscurity from months before just to post a nasty comment on them. Political threads are naturally going to get rough and divided, but I think it would be nice if we could all remember to be gentle even when we disagree on other kinds of threads. Myself included...I'm not saying I'm Mother Teresa :snooty: and other people are just mean.

But then again, on the flip side, I can name but won't, at least 3 people who probably don't even realize how wonderful they have been. Supportive and caring with great advice.

There is even one person, that I don't want to like because of her views on a certain subject but yet she always has great advice on everything else. She is friendly and helpful. I just don't look at her posts regarding that one subject and she has no idea we have different opinions.

Somewhat snarky replies are definitley not uncommon. Yes, sometimes they make me kind of upset- some person I don't even know is like yelling at me. :confused3

BUT then I remember that it's really not a big deal. I just ignore their post and realize that they probably aren't trying to be mean, just trying to convey they opinion.. except it reads differently on the internet. Sometimes they say one thing and we interpret it one way when that wasn't at all what the writer had intended (now, there are times when this isn't the case.. ).

Overall, I think the point of the DIS is for Disney lovers to come together and discuss Disney and non-Disney related things. We should keep one in thing in mind- despite our differences we all share a common love- Disney.
:grouphug:

Sometimes you got to wear a thick skin on the CB forum..Be carefull!!

Several months back I posted a thread on this board and they tore me apart cuase my spelling..Give me a break this is a family forum(not just for adults)

But if you post here it seems like the gloves are off!!:confused3

Nice post, and I agree with you. :hippie:

My intelligence has been questioned more times than I care to remember, thank you very much!

Yes, it takes all kinds. Kind of have to learn how to grow a thick skin. Just move on and try not to take anything personally. Although, I admit sometimes that is hard to do.

I think people find it a lot easier to be mean to someone when they have the cover of anonymity. I think people say things online that they would NEVER say to someone's face.

I just wanted to apologize if I've ever hurt someone's feelings on this board!!!

It does happen often - especially the gang up on responses. However I've also see threads where the OP was very offended by replies that weren't mean, they just weren't what they were looking for.

I saw one recently where the original poster edited and removed her post because she was so upset about the responses, but I couldn't see why she was objecting! She went on and on about how nasty people were being, but I must be blind because I didn't see any nasty.

I heard an 'internet guy' on the TV one night saying that the people on the internet consist of 'victims and predators'. I guess it's a little extreme but I could see what he meant, it can be a jungle out there!!!

The other problem is that what I wrote was not taken in the spirit I intended it to be. Someone asked for an opinion and I gave mine. That's all. You can disagree with me. I was not being mean or anything to anyone but if you ask for an opinion that's what I will give you.

It is hard when you can not hear voice inflection or see facial expressions that go with what you are reading. Emoticons only go so far. :rotfl:

There are a few posters who get up everyone's noses for being snarky, rude and just damn right obnoxious.

They know who they are.
