I just got off the phone w/ Lauri and Matt....Gaston left his mark in Va w/ flooding (up to 14")
and power outages...and they were one of the unfortunate ones to be left w/o power...

They did get some water in the basement, but as far as they can see right now that is all the damage...except that their power will be out until at least 11pm tonight..

They wanted everyone on the boards to know that they are all right...but for obvious reasons won't be posting until their power is restored...

I wondered where the useless poll was, good luck to them

Glad to hear they're alright. We were watching the Weather Channel last night and saw how much rain everyone down there was getting. Hope all the other DIS'ers in the area are okay as well!

Ugh, that sucks that their power is still out. They live right behind my parents & my parents have power. Hopefully that means Lauri & Matt's will be on soon.

It was a crazy day here in Richmond, I tell ya! I've never seen so much rain in my life. Even Interstate 95 was closed because of flooding. Many roads are still closed this morning, too.

Our neighbor lost his car because he works at a hospital downtown, in a low lying area.

It's a mess!

We got our power back quite a bit earlier than what VA Power's little recording said -- thankfully!!!

Okay, yesterday was a really freaky day. To borrow from a friend and apologies to the two men who wrote the music to Beauty and the Beast --- no one blows like Gaston, no one rains like Gaston, no one decides to park himself over Richmond and dump 12 to 14 inches of water like Gaston. :teeth:

Highways flooded under up to 5 feet in some places, roads washed away, serious flooding in Shockoe Bottom downtown. Yesterday I got home to no power, water in the basement that eventually reached about 1.5 to 2 inches, and four dogs that, when I opened the door to let them out to do their business, looked at me like "are you nuts??? I'm not going out in that!!"

We got power back about 9:00 AM. I've been spending my morning and will be spending my afternoon using the shop vac getting the water up. Thankfully a good 99% of things down there are stored in Rubbermaid totes. Quite a bit of the water has receded, but ast night I opened the door from the basement to the back yard and water just flowed out. At the same time I thought "cool!" and "good grief, that's a lot of water in the basement!"

Glad the power is back on...and pretty quickly, Matt! Part of the floor in my sunroom is wet, but that's it. Then again...no basements here! I heard about a tornado in Poquoson. Will check on a couple DISers there.

Glad to know I am not the only one singing that :D

It was a mess here. I have never seen so much rain. DH was at home and lost power for a bit. I was at work and managed to get to my sister's house for the night. Glad to hear everyone is well.

I'm glad to hear y'all are ok, Matt and Lauri.:) I heard Gaston put a little water in your area and wondered if everything was ok your way.

Does this mean you have a swimming pool for a basement now?:p
