I guess you missed my point entirely.

remember they are talking about a RUDE CM not every CM . I give them the chance to relise why they are there and what they a suppose to be doing.

There is just no excuse for rudeness in a customer service field unless it's warented by a rude guest. Even then it should be dismissed and a manager called to handle the rude guest while you attend to all others.

If it was every CM without a smile I would have to be doing alot of reporting at HM and ToT because they are good at not breaking character and giving a smile.

yeah but please remember to every ten thouand people who he smiles at and makes dreams come true, theres always goin to be one that catches him off gaurd, catches him in the middle of thinking about somethine bad. I personally couldnt do it.

Disney1fan2002, I cringe every time I hear that story... I just couldn't imagine! I have a 5 year old and a 2 year old and them going through by themselves, it would be game over... I would have had to be seriously compensated for that one.

The only really rude cm we ever ran into in all my tons of trips was at Sci Fi resturant. We were there for my daughters birthday, she wanted to eat here for her bday lunch. The waiter saw her pin and asked if it was her bday. She said yup, all excited! And the waiter went on a tangent that he bet it wasn't actually her birthday and she was just saying it was her birthday.... my daugher was 4!

He rolled his eyes and said ok, if you say so. You would think maybe he was joking with her, but he was totally serious. I didn't even know that sci fi did anything for birthdays until I saw 2 other families around us having birthday's, the wait staff would all come out and sing and present them with a huge sundae with a candle on it.

We had already ordered dessert and when our waiter brought it out, he had this extra tiny sundae "thing" and basically flung it at my 4 year old daughter. I can't even explain what it was or what was in it... not that we weren't grateful, but I guess we would have rather he not done it at all. She didn't even touch it.

We left the resturant with kinda a bad taste in our mouths but what can you do? Very odd! Funny enough, it's still her favorite resturant in Disney.

DD is a temp seasonal CM and did the CP. I think the thing that shocked me most was some people she worked with who worked part time at WDW and (gasp) Universal....

Why is that shocking? Many people work at both Universal and Disney. I personally know a Guest Service coordinator at Universal who also works at Tower of Terror. But even more "shocking" is the number of CMs that have annual passes for Universal or the number of team members at Universal that have APs for Disney. Honestly, there is no rivalry between employees at Disney and employees at Universal.

The only rivalry between the parks I see is on the Disboard. Many people think you can't like both parks.

We haven't met a rude CM at DW yet but believe me we met many in DL. It was quite an eye opener!!

Yes! We noticed that too. Anyone who thinks WDW cm's aren't "magical" needs to visit Disneyland!

We had a running joke, after two days there: anytime a cm would say anything, with most of them you could reasonably add "...now get out of here, you stupid tourist" to the end of their sentence.

We found ONE guy working the Sunwheel who was upbeat and smiling.

I've heard Disneyland Paris is even worse. :artist:

In all my times of being to WDW, I have only met 1 really rude one. There was one that was not very nice, but she wasn't really RUDE, either. I encountered them both on the same day (our last day) of my Florida trip with my HS marching band.
The really rude one was working at Rosie's All-American Cafe in MGM (right across from the Fantasmic! theater). There were like 5 or 6 of us all going there for dinner before heading over to see Fantasmic! We ran into another friend of ours and her boyfriend and this friend was in a bad mood (nothing unusual for her), but we asked her what was wrong and she starts flipping out about one lady that worked there. She told us not to go to the second window (I don't remember which window it was exactly) because that lady was nasty. So we went up to order and the rude lady didn't have a line, while the other windows had lines with 5 or 6 people at least. Of course I went into her line because I didn't feel like waiting. As soon as I step up to the window, the lady goes "What do you want?" in this nasty tone. We had meal coupons that got you a "free" entree, drink, and desert at this restaurant. We had one or two every day of our trip, so by this point, we know the drill. I said "Could I please have chicken and...." She interupted me midsentence and said "Drink" in the same arrogant, nasty tone. I said "Diet Coke and..." once more, she interrupted me and said "What you want for desert?" and once again in that tone. I said "cookie please." When I went to hand her the meal coupon, she just ripped out of my hands. So then I went to the next window to pick up my food and after one of my friends ordered, she came over and I asked her if the lady was nasty to her too. My friend said "Yeah, she just took the meal coupon right out of my hands when I went to hand it to her." When we got to the table, everyone else said the same thing, so I know I wasn't just imagining it.
The other lady was in the parking lot the same day. We were walking to our buses to go home and we were following the asst. band director (really cool guy that acts our age at times, in fact all the staff does, you should have seen our band director get on the bus that night. Oh boy, was that interesting.). So the asst. band director starts walking in the middle of the street (not the brightest thing to do at park closing when all the Disney buses are coming in, I'll admit, but whatev.) Of course we follow him because we're slightly delusional at this point in the trip and have no idea where the buses are (I don't even think he had any clue, lucky guess is my story). The one CM was standing there flipping out at us for walking in the street. She def. could have said it nicer, but I guess its her job, so I won't say she was rude, just not cheery like the stereotypical CMs.

Ironically, that same trip we met probably the best CM I have ever encountered in all my trips. We still talk about him on a weekly basis more than 9 monthes later. I am so glad we met him because he kind of overshadowed the bad.

I am REALLY claustrophobic and when approaching the Mission Space Ride I asked the female CM "if the power goes out how long will it take you to get us out of the capsules?". I asked this question because when trying to overcome a phobia (which is a feeling of losing control) you have to have knowledge and alternate plans. If she said five minutes I would then be MUCH calmer if I did get stuck. ANYWAY.. when I asked this my son was about five or ten steps behind me. She did not figure he was "with" me and she looked at him and said "Can you believe that crazy lady, give me a break!". He looked at her and said "Yea I can believe her, she is my mother, Nice work!"

She was speechless.

I used to work in the Disney parking lots, if you were walking in a tram lane or the bus lane parking lot CMs do tend to get a little testy. It really is a safety issue and no CM wants guests hit on their watch.

Trams take several hundred feet to stop. You just can't jam on the brakes or you'll jack-knife. Can you imagine jack-knifing a tram full of people? To prevent this, there are seperate air brakes for each car, which increases stopping distances.

They will also totally freak if you walk between tram cars, the spieler and driver can't see you and if the start to move you'll be REALLY hurt if you aren't killed. They also get riled up about people standing and goofing off while riding on a tram. But I challenge anyone to find a Tram operator who hasn't had someone goofing off fall or nearly fall off!

So yes parking lot CMs do freak out about stuff like that because it is a safety issue.

They are trained that safety comes above guest service.

I always remember the CM's being really nice each time ive been there...except for this time this past october.

We had just arrived to SSR and head over to artisits pallate to grab some lunch while we were waiting for our room to be ready and the people who took our order were SOOOOOO crabby. I had never been there before and i simply asked the differences in sizes of the macaroni and cheese and she preceeded to do one of those loud sighs... you know, the ones to tell you that you really ticked them off with that question... and acted like i should know everything about how they run their sizes.

ummmm im sorry for asking a simple question. Im sure they get it all the time. but if thats the case, then have some samples out so people dont have to ask it... or.... maybe they did and with being hungry, tired and having jet lag i might have not seen it... but still... no reason to make a person feel STUPID infront of a bunch of people.

Another thing is the manager came out and was running around like a crazy person and they seemed extremley busy, so im sure they were all going nuts and it was just a bad day for them, which is why i didnt report it, but it sure put a damper on my simple question. :)
