Mean Cast Members

Not to hop on the Monorail bandwagon - but as a local and a former Guest Relations Cast Member the one doozy of a CM that we encountered was on the monorail. At the time I was working in Guest Relations, so I turned around went into City Hall and had my manager call his manager.

We also dealt with a really rude cast member on Philharmagic. She was screaming at us to move - apparently asking nicely never crossed her mind. Well, in line I was reunited with her manager that I used to work with. So, while she is screaming at us in the holding area to move. I asked her to call her manager, Kim, so that we may discuss the situation. She shut up and tried to cover herself. But, I insisted - I was shocked that someone would scream like that.

I have experienced sooooo many rude guests. When I worked there I tried to give people the benefit of the doubt. They are tired, long week, long days, little sleep. Now as a guest - I just get tired of seeing people be rude.

Also - to the poster who posted about the monorail. Anytime we have ridden up front the driver always tell us - that he is the XYZ monorail and if a guest is waiting once we get to XYZ hotel that we would need to get off. Maybe your driver explained it poorly? I have never had a problem with it - but the driver has never been rude to us...

I figure that as much as we go to WDW to only have two situations that is pretty darn good and says a lot for the CM's!

Only once did I deal with someone who was overly nasty. It was a security guard at Epcot. We got married at WDW on a Friday night. We were staying at the Boardwalk. One of my bridesmaids left her park hopper in my room so I walked to the international gateway, chatted with the security guard there a while and when one of our groomsmen showed up I passed the ticket over the turnstyle to him.

He walked back to the main enterence and passed the ticket to the waiting bridesmaid.

Now I know passing a ticket across the turnstyle is a no no....but at the time we didn't realize we were doing anything wrong.

Anyway, my friend was detained entering the park and so was the friend who handed her the ticket. The CM refused to look at both tickets, refused to let them go to guest relations to show that they were seperate tickets that had each been used correctly. A 3rd friend walked to the international gateway and found us at the Boardwalk. Since I was a former CM, I got the security guard who I was chatting at the international gateway involved and one of my former supervisors who had attened my wedding the night before.

It took nearly 4 hours to straighten out and we weren't even offered an apology. I think he thought we were a bunch of teens trying to pull a fast one.

It was a nightmare and really put a damper on the day!

Put yourself in the shoes of the guest at the Comtemporary. How many monorails do you think have cabs open leaving the MK? It may be the only way for them to ride up front.

I've seen plenty - just not at peak times. Similarly, when I was staying this past week at The Poly, plenty of times the monorail came in with someone up front and I didn't ask - nor did I expect- to kick out those who were already there because following your own logic, I could request up front on every monorail that comes into the Poly and get it - right?

No. I thought we explained it clearly, but I'll try again...

There's a Resort monorail trains designated/assigned to the Contemporary, one designated/assigned to the Polynesian, and one designated/assigned to the Grand Floridian.

Each driver knows which resort her/his train 'belongs' to on that shift.

Guests boarding an 'assigned'-to-the-Contemporary monorail vehicle AT the Contemporary have front-car preference over Guests already IN the front car.

Guests boarding an 'assigned'-to-the-Polynesian monorail vehicle AT the Polynesian have front-car preference over Guests already IN the front car.

Guests boarding an 'assigned'-to-the-Grand Floridian monorail vehicle AT the Grand Floridian have front-car preference over Guests already IN the front car.

Yes, the waiting Guests even have preference over parties who boarded a given resort's monorail AT that resort, on the basis that the Guests currently in the front car have made a full loop.

NOW, armed with this knowledge, you SIMPLY tell the Cast Member at the main loading gate at any of the three monorail resorts that you'd like to ride in the front car and that you are willing to wait for THAT resort's monorail train. Assuming, of course, that you ARE willing to wait.

Otherwise, you should be prepared to exit that car at the vehicle's assigned resort. Doesn't mean you will HAVE to - there may be nobody waiting - but really, a monorail driver who tells you you MAY have to move, really DOES know what she/he is talking about.

No, the first guy was right, he just didn't explain things clearly (or he may just know the rule, but not the reason).
Each resort monorail train is 'assigned' to a different monorail resort - two each, I think. That resort's Guests have priority for riding up front. If someone boards the Grand Floridian monorail at the Polynesian, then there are Guests waiting for the front car AT the Grand Floridian, the Polynesian-boarder/s must exit the front car and move back.

So even though you were already in the front car, if there'd been someone waiting for it at the Contemporary, yes, you would have to exit. From your report, there wasn't anyone waiting - but your insistence on hearing from a manager caused the driver to go in search of one. Receipt of your co-pilot's license does and the apology you got NOT mean the driver was wrong - it just means the manager was smoothing over the situation.

Former CM here of 7 years - this has been the policy at 'rails for YEARS.

Great explaination! In addition, the station CMs also know which color monorail belongs to their resort. For instance Monorail Blue might be the Contemporary's assigned monorail and Monorail Red might be the Polynesian's assigned monorail.

FWIW ... I would feel a little bad about kicking someone out of the cab, but I would know that they were warned in advance that might happen. I would feel less bad if I waited for the right color monorail to come around.

Oh, I didn't know that! I've seen people waiting for specific monorails and wondered why - thanks for the explanation.

I think I see alot of bad feelings over this front car thing and they should stop doing it!

We experienced a rude CM (our first one, in fact) just this past trip. She was at the Hall of Presidents and actually yelled at a lady next to me when the lady misunderstood her and started to move ahead. I felt very bad for the lady.

The only reason I never said anything was the CM sounded like she had a cold so I was hoping she just should have stayed in bed that day!! :guilty:

The only CM I ever saw that was extremely rude, and had NO reason to be, was at the Contemporary, in the concierge lounge. A woman asked if they had Fruit Loops. She was pleasant enough, not harried or rude in any way, just asked, "Do you have Fruit Loops?"

The CM went off on her. Super rude tone, eye-rolling, whole bit. "Um, no, I'm so SORRY, we don't have Fruit Loops. What we HAVE is OUT there. You can see it yourself." Then a giant, huffy sigh with more eye-rolling.

The woman was so shocked she looked at me. I said, "Obviously you are very, very stupid for not being up on the Fruit Loop inventory." She said, "apparently so," and went on her way.

ETA: I forgot about another. A woman stopped when getting off the train at Splash Mountain. Her baby had spit up and she was wiping it off. The CM yelled at her for blocking everyone's way and said she had to move NOW. He was kind of a punk. She did.

I have never experienced a mean cm when at disney for the last 5 times. I know someone who works their and they have to keep a smile on their face, at least that's what their told.

We haven't met a rude CM at DW yet but believe me we met many in DL. It was quite an eye opener!!

We have had one bad experience. It was on our last trip in Sept. My 4 yo twins both have cerebral palsy. They are both relatively mild CP and walk on their own. Anyway, Josiah, the boy, was exactly 40 inches on the trip. He had been on many of the 40 in rides multiple times and we knew he was the right size. The first time we went on Soarin' they were checking him really closely and he was having a hard time standing straight and still long enough for them to check because of his CP. I explained to the CM and she was great. She was patient with him and worked with him to make sure that he really was tall enough. He was, so he got to ride.

Well, at the end of the week we had the same problem at Dinosaur. When I tried to explain to the CM he just told me it was tough and we would have to wait until he was taller and then he walked off. I was so upset. Yeah, I guess it is tough that my son was born brain damaged. Too bad for us. If he would have taken the time to check, he would have seen that he was the right size.

Anyway, we just went on with our day and I sent an email after the trip focusing on all the great CM's we encountered but telling them about that guy too. They apologized, of course, and said they would check into it. I just couldn't believe the insensitivity to my child's disability!

Met a few rude CMs but 99% are wonderful so the few bad ones aren't remembered long.

I've run into a couple. One wasn't directed at me, but as we were walking into that new 3D show Mickey's Philharmagic last month, this older guy was just screaming, literally screaming, at people who'd sat down in the center of the row and hadn't moved all the way to the end, to get up out of their seats and move all the way down the end of the row -then he threatened to throw them all out. Now, I realize you aren't supposed to sit in the middle of the theater but this guy was yelling at them that all the seats are good and the theater wasn't even half full. We could've all fit in the center seats. Oddly enough, no one moved. The man walked off in a huff. It was very strange to see a CM go off that way and just scream at people. Btw, we were law-abiding Disney guests and walked all the way down to the end of the row. I didn't want to get yelled at!!

I've had a few experiences with CMs being rude, but most the time I just shrug it off. After being a CM, there are times when I can see not being the jolliest person in the world. There were a few days I know I wasn't a smiling CP. The worst day, and mind you I didn't have a backbone then, was when I teased a gentleman for wearing a Islands of Adventure shirt. He went OFF on me, he spent how much on this and that, and he can choose to wear what he wants. If I wouldn't have been caught offguard I would have used examples of wearing a Coke shirt into a Pepsi factory, or a Ohio State shirt to Michigan. The only time I "yelled" at a guest was when I was pushing a HEAVY FILLED drink wagon, and these people stopped RIGHT infront of me. You can't stop those things, so I yelled to move after they ignored me hearing me say I couldn't stop the wagon the first three times. It was either a yell, or a trip the first aid.

Anyways, most the time you find a rude CM, it probably means they were yelled at by a guests sometime that day. After getting yelled at so many times, you give up a bit.

This is exactly what we were told - and the cast members know which color is assigned to which resort. Truthfully, it makes sense and we understood that it was one way for more people to experience the magic. But it was explained nicely to us, so we had no questions.

ETA: Don't you just hate it when somebody doesn't read the whole thread before posting? Sorry guys! I should have realized that this would have been answered.

The only one I can think of (other than a really bad waiter at CMs) was at Dinosaur.

DH,DS and DM got separated from me DD DSi and DNi entering into the building. No big deal, we decided to meet up after the ride. Well as we started to enter into the preshow, the CM cut the line off right behind me, breaking between me and my 4 1/2DD. She started letting in people from the FP line. I tried push my way back wards to DD and the CM screams at me and tells me I'll see the rest of my party on the other side. The automatic doors are starting to close and she pushes me into the preshow. DSi DNi and I spend the preshow banging on the doors trying to get out. When the doors open I run out the exit to see if DD is coming out the other side. DNi and DSi try to go out where we came in. The crazy CM starts yelling at them as they are trying to tell her that she separated my 4 1/2DD from us. She seems oblivious to the fact that this is a problem and keeps saying "you can meet with the rest of your party at the end". By the time DH exits the preshow with DD I am hysterical. He was wondering why I would have sent DD to him by herself. Luckily DD went right into the other preshow room and yelled Daddy. We reported the CM as we were boarding the ride. When we exited a manager was waiting to talk to us. He was very apologetic for the CMs behavior

I encountered one in Feb 2005. I wanted to pin trade with a merchandise CM in AK. I had one of those starter Tink pins and wanted to trade it for a tink pin I saw on her lanyard. Well she snapped at me that I couldn't trade that pin b/c she already had one just like it. So I asked if she could trade it to another CM b/c I really wanted that pin. Nope, against the rules. I was a CMa few years before that and I did everything in my power to make the guests happy. If a guest wanted a pin and I already had one like the one they were trading I simply traded it to a mnger or another CM, not argue the rules to a guest...

Um, no, I don't mind at all - not when the new posts agree with me :teeth:

It is the scariest feeling in the world, isn't it? When my kids were sent through the HM, I thought I was going out of my mind! My Dh was in the doombuggy behind them, but 1/2 the ride, they can't see him. He was able to grab them as soon as the ride stopped, but because I was told I had to ride through, I was about 10 cars behind. When I got off, Dh was holding our sobbing 2yo, and my 4yo DD was holding his hand, when she saw me, she ran over to me and starting sobbing. I grabbed her up, and she asked "why did you leave us, mama?" Well, I was now a sobbing mess. I just lost it. I sat down with them on the bench outside the exit, and some people noticed something was seriously wrong and went to get a manager. Boy, did I go off about the CM at the controls!!!!
