DH and I are considering a trip to Costa Rica next year and are trying to compare the ABD trip to a Tauck trip.

Are the meals provided by ABD all buffets or do you order off the menu? Anyone know about Tauck?

May be a silly question, but it's important to us... thanks

We were on the Tauck Bridges Costa Rica trip in July. The big difference we noticed between Tauck and ABD is that at almost all meals with Tauck, you are allowed to order whatever you want off of a regular menu...everyone on our trip really liked this, as opposed to ABD where quite often it is a buffet or rather small set menu to choose from. Also, with Tauck, all meals were included on this trip - with ABD there are several meals not included, which can really add to the price.

Thanks so much -- it looks like Tauck may be a better option for us. It's just the two of us, and the price difference was pretty amazing. This would be our first "daring" excursion, so we're trying to do our homework well in advance. Appreciate your help.

Almost every meal on the Costa Rica ABD is a buffet. The only meal I recall odering from a menu was on Junior Adventurers night when the adults ate at the restaurant at the hotel. The only other meals that weren't buffets were the two we did on our own. The buffets were fairly good, although beans & rice got a little old after awhile, since it was on every buffet, including breakfast. I haven't been on the Tauck Costa Rica trip, but on our Tauck Yosemite trip this summer our experience was similiar to kjd469's with many of the meals being ordered from the menu.

And you also qualify for Tauck's one free night offer if you book the Costa Rica trip... :thumbsup2

And that’s why we’re so pleased to offer the Gift of Time in celebration of our 85th Anniversary! For guests who are traveling with Tauck for the first time in 2011, we’re extending a free overnight hotel stay to new travelers joining us on any of these journeys when you book by September 30, 2010.

Wow!!! I didn't see that when I looked on their website -- thanks so much!!

Meals are always important to us as well..and I hate buffets. We did the ABD Costa Rica trip and no, it is not all buffets. You will be able to order off the menu for some meals. I Loved the ABD Costa Rica trip and highly recommend it!
