Meal vouchers with Disney Hotel and Character Lunch or Dinner?

Since you all have been great in helping me, I was wondering if anybody else who has booked a DLRP directly with Disneyland ( through their catalogue- telephone number in each country) HAS too book the meal voucers. Here in Italy they told me that I MUST pay for the meal voucher ( I chose the 34€ for each adult and €10 for each child.).
One of the days we will be there we thought of goinf to visit Paris...just a quick sightseeing trip, just to say we saw the Eiffel Tower and the Christmas lights at the Champs Elysee. I was thinking of doing it on Saturday , our last day. I booked an Good Morning Fantasy land breakfast, and then thought that we would use a meal voucher, ( if we must use them since they are not refunded) and then go to visit Paris in the afternoon. While I'm writing this, maybe the girls would prefer their last night at Disney to be a special one...but since it's Saturday, won't it be too crowded ?

My main question is if anybody else has been told the same ?

Also, regarding the Character Lunch or Dinner...is it really worth it or will they be also at Walt's Cafe and I should just book Dinner there ?

If I understand your point you are saying you have been told that you need to book the meal plan for a stay. Since this is an optional extra then I think you have been wrongly advised. We have never taken out the meal plan as we prefer the flexibility but understand that if you want to have as much pre-paid then the vouchers may work for you.

You will not get characters at Walt's restaurant as they have long since used there for character breakfasts. Personally we include a character meal in every trip as it is such a highlight to enjoy watching the kids get autographs and interact one on one with them

Thanks for your answer. I will definetely book the character meal. Here I booked trhough the reservations number that appears on the Disneyland catalogue, it's a number that I dial to Milan and connects you directly to France. They told me I needed to book one voucher per night. Accornding to you I should not have to be forced to do it, but when you went did you book through Disneyland directly ? Can I book tables evn without voucers. ? The pre paid thing is what is convenient but I just was trying to avoid one day and not loose the money.

I booked our holiday directly through DLP and didn't have to buy the meal vouchers. Just as well because I wouldn't have wanted to as they seem a little restrictive.
But its right they are a optional extra so I don't think you should have been made to purchase them. Might be worth ringing back if you aren't happy, to see if you can get them changed.

I just called DLP reservation number and they told me that it's not necessary to purchase the meal vouchers, but if I purchase one, I have to purchase them for the WHOLE time I will be there...since we will be there for 5 nights, it means 5 voucchers, being a total of €340 for eating just one meal. I think I am better off just paying as I go along...I think that is better, and then I can go to Paris and not worry about wasting a voucher and eating what ever we desire...and probably spending less.
