Meal upgrades?

I was looking at the menus and reviewing the Meal Plan info. I noticed that it said that meal upgrades are not included. For example, I was planning on having my kids 'upgrade' to the kids steak at Le Cellier. I am more than happy to pay the additional $2 that it says it costs on the menu. Will they let me do that? Have you ever done it?

We used the plan in October of 2007 and upgraded DS to steak several times. We were never charged the difference.
