In February we will be doing a disney cruise and then going home to the Boardwalk for 4 nights. We will not have a car to go out and purchase food and we are staying in a studio this trip. Is it possible to purchase a meal plan with disney for the stay? I know it is available when you purchase a package through disney but is it available for DVC members?

We will be eating all of our meals on property somewhere so i was wondering if this was an option? maybe even a cheaper option than paying for every meal. But to be honest i don't even know how the meal plan works...where you can eat and where you can't.

Thanks for any help or advice....

32 days until we are HOME.....:bounce:

Sorry, there isn't any meal plan available for DVC members.

Since you are staying only 4 nights and in a studio, you could pick up a few items at the Screen Door on the Boardwalk. It's more expensive than a grocery store, but less expensive than restaurant meals or renting a car/taxi to get to a grocery store. Might make a welcome change to eat in your room a few times after all those big cruise/restaurant meals. :teeth:

The next best thing to a meal plan is connections vouchers. You can join connectrions for $1 to try the club for a month and cancel if you dont feel you would benifit from the entertainment club.

They sell the cheapest park hoppers but best of all is the prepaid meal vouchers.

quick and casual vouchers, vacation kingdom lunch vouchers, and character breakfast vouchers.

the quick and casual are a great deal , especially at beaches and cream where you get an entree, side, drink, and dessert(even the kitchen sink) all for $11 and that includes the tax and tip!!!

for a more in depth explanation visit www.mousesavers.com
and find the info about connections.

by the way when are you cruising in Feb. we will be on the 2/1 magic western.

Honestly - you don't save any money on disneys food plans! Or any of there packages for that matter- they are convenient but if you price things out they do not save money. For four days, get some cereal for the room or nice pastries from the bakery for breakfast- eat lunch at hurricane hannas, beaches and cream, b fast food in the parks, make some PS for some nice dinners. You can charge most everything on your room key so the bill will be consolidated- you can control your costs by your restaurant choices

thanks everyone for the input..

We always do a meal plan when we visit Disney. While you could eat cheaper, it is wonderful to have it all prepaid and not have to worry about the cost of the meals. It is also nice to visit some of the better places and let the kids experince it. We enjoy dining out and experiencig different dishes. If it is in your budget, by all means, go for it.
It will be an extension of the wonderful food you will experience on the cruise. By the way, it is helpful to get up early and run/walk on the exercise deck and always take the stairs on the cruise.....that keeps the weight off!
Enjoy your trip!

Meal plan or not, the transaction requires a room key so its no more work or bother to eat out whether you room charge or meal plan it. We love to eat out and almost never use the kitchen- we eat dinners at all the nice restaurants and still find we can never eat as much as the meal plan covers. There really is no extra convenience- why pay for what you don't eat?

Disney Meal plans are like all you can eat buffets...they sound good, but you really got to eat for them to be worth it financially. On her first trip with her family, my sister went with the full 3-meals a day plan. By the end of the week, they felt they were just planning their days around their meals and constantly ordered everything just to get their money's worth.

Keep in mind too...you're doing WDW after the cruise. You may be sick of eating big meals by the time you check-in.:)

There are no meal plans open to DVC members staying on points. Besides most of the meal plans over the years have not been a good deal and in many cases were actually more expensive than if you got the exact same thing and paid out of pocket. If one wants to prepay, just pay extra on the credit card up front or do the connections meal vouchers. Still, having to get an appetizer, entree and desert to make it "worth it" costs you more in the long run in both $$ and pounds.
