ME question

We used ME last year for our first trip - and LOVED it - wow, the convenience !!! But one thing puzzled me - when we arrived at MCO, we headed straight to the ME buses - got in line for the bus for our resort, hopped in the next available, and headed out. While waiting for the bus, I noticed that there were hoards of people lining up at some counters for some reason - who were those people, and what were they in line for ?? Thanks !!

Sometimes some people need to check in. Maybe they don't have their vouchers with them. Sometimes their resort or return date has changed and they need to have their return reservation changed. Another possibility is that they did not use the luggage tags but still want ME to pick up their bags. They can go to the counter and give Disney their baggage checks and description of the luggage and Disney will still pick them up.

When we first used ME everyone had to go to the counter but now if you have all your paperwork in order and your ME voucher you can get right in line like you did.

I'm glad I saw this thread. When did this change? My last ME experience was in 2008. I don't remember walking right to the buses. I guess it will be explained in the ME packet, but I would have been standing in line for no reason thinking that was what I was supposed to do!:upsidedow

You don't go right to the bus/bus line entirely on your own. You go to the Welcome Center 'kiosk', where the CMs will determine whether you need to proceed to the counter or whether you can just go get in line.

You only bypass the line if the CM at the beginning of the line tells you to. They don't always have people going directly to the buses.

Well, last year, we didn't talk to anyone, just went ahead and got in line for our bus :) Ooops !

When we arrived last June, there was a CM with a hand held bar code scanner standing at the entrance to the roped off area. She asked us a series of questions such as did we have our DME booklet (yes we did), did we have checked luggage (no we didn't), were our reservations on the booklet correct (yes they were). When we were done she scanned our bar codes and sent us into the line for our resort.

I noticed that other people who didn't have their DME booklets or who said they checked luggage but didn't use the DME tags were sent over to the counter instead of into the resort lines.

It seems like my experiences with DME check-in have been different every time.

Twice in 2008, there was a main desk line where I took my booklet to the desk to check-in. Both those times the CMs were clear on telling people only one person per party needed to get into the line, and then meet up before getting into the resort bus lines.

In Sept 2009, the lines were monstrous on the Saturday we flew in and they were telling everyone with booklets to just get into the bus lines with their entire party. CMs handled the check-ins at the podiums before the bus lines. The main desk was being used for other check-ins.

In January 2010, I had my booklet, there were very few people, but similar to 2009 was told to bypass the main desk and proceed to the bus line podiums for check-in.

So, they appear to change up their processes depending on what is going on. But I have always had some CM check my booklet and ask if I have luggage to be picked up and delivered and how many pieces.
