ME Luggage ??

On our upcomming trip we are renting a car because we will be there for 2 weeks and I need some flexability. We have used ME in the past and found it works really great.

Is it possible to schedule a ME reservation and not use the ME bus but solely for the purpose of having the luggage picked up and transferred to my resort room?

No some one would have to be on the bus for your bags to be released. The bags are barcoded and when get on the bus they scan your ticket giving approval for those bags to be released.

What we did in June was 3 went on the bus with the 5 bags taken through ME.

2 went right to the rental van with no bags.

Now we just take ME and rent from one of the on-sight or DTD hotel rental locations. This has worked out great and really eats up no more time then waiting for your bags and having to go to the rental then.

You will find that some will tell you it's perfectly fine to have your luggage go with DME while you go off and rent a car. And, they could be right. But, and this is the sticking point....DME was not developed as a luggage transfer service. It is intended as a people delivery service, with luggage going along as a perk, so to speak. Now, there are a lot of people who have done exactly what you want to do and had no problems with it at all. BUT....Disney could change that with no notice. I, for one, would prefer to use it as it is intended rather than worry about my luggage not getting to me at my resort.
If you really don't want to schlep those bags, then have at one adult go and rent the car and the rest of the group travel on DME. Or, just take DME and then rent a car closer to WDW. There are a ton of car rental companies in the area that will come and pick you up and bring you to their office...mostly in DTD.
