We usually ask for our own table or sit with people we are traveling with. I can not say anything positive about the 3 times we have been at the tables with others. One time our daughter was around 5 and we were put at a long table with all adults and their bottles of wine were already waiting at the table. Another time we had a grandma & grandpa traveling with their granddaughter near my daughters age (maybe 8 at the time) and the grandma was so strict I was scared to move in fear I would be corrected. After the 2nd or 3rd night, we said enough and switched dining rotations. The last time we tried it was with a family and we got along great the first night and by the second night we were chatting more and they asked us how many cruises we had been on. We just answered "quite a few" as it was well over platinum. The wife got all nasty about it and we stayed for dinner and asked to move again the next night. I didn't want to hear "well some people are not so fortunate" every night. Honestly we usually travel with other families so it isn't a problem but we definitely request our own when we are just the 3 of us.
On another note, I have a friend who just sat with another family her last cruise and they had a great time. (She usually travels with us)
