Because of Mobile Magic, I made my teenagers their own accounts. We will have magic bands as well. In the past, they just used the magic band to pay for snacks.

Now that they have their own MDE, does this mean I need to go into each of their accounts and add a credit card? Or will the charges just go to the room which has my credit card on file? Do they each need their own pin number? Thanks for your help.

The Magic Band is linked to the room- the room is linked to the credit card. So, regardless of separate MDE accounts, as long as their band is linked to the room they can charge. Not sure on the PIN# but they can set that up at check in.

If they use mobile ordering for food, they will need a credit or gift card, since that can't be charged to the room

This is not true.

Magic Bands are not linked to the room or credit card. Likewise, the room is not linked to bands or credit card.

EVERYTHING is linked to the MDE account, and ONLY to the MDE account. Magic Bands, and, by extention, Magic Mobile, are merely ways of accessing the data stored in the MDE account and communicating that data to Disney's systems. In the case of Magic Mobile, not all functions are available at this time.

If you have Magic Bands, why do you need to use Magic Mobile? And why create separate accounts for them?

That was a simplified explanation. Magic bands are used for making charges to the room . The resort charges the credit card on file on the room reservation. It used to be possible (maybe still is) to have bands linked to different credit cards, but had to be done at the resort desk. Not sure how they charge the $100 hold with multiple bands/different cards

I created separate accounts for them so that we can all try to get a boarding pass for RotR. In the past, if my daughter and I were both logged into to the MDE registered to me, one of us would get kicked out. I know ...over and over again I read that the same did not happen to other people, but it did for us every time. This trip, for the first time, we were both able to book dining without one of us getting kicked out because she had her own MDE. It was great. Anyway, since we all have accounts, we can all now try to get one boarding pass for the group.

I don't actually need magic mobile...I'm not sure why I started my post that way. I don't intend to use the phones like that, although we'll all carry them to the parks with us. It doesn't seem easier to me. I found our old magic bands. I guess if one us loses it, then we can deal with mobile magic.

I just want to make sure they can use their magic band to buy snacks. I showed them all how to use mobile order, and they will have a gift card or a rewards card number stored in their notes to copy and enter to pay for a mobile order. I'll carry a little bit of cash, but I don't plan to give them cash.

From plan Disney…

”Managing charging privileges is easy by visiting the Front Deskof your Disney Resort hotel. You can add this, or remove this, for anyone on your Resort reservation, and if you want to amend this during your visit, this can also be done. It's worth noting that adding a credit card, and charging to a MagicBand is only available to Guests staying at a Disney Resort hotel.”

Now that they have their own MDE, does this mean I need to go into each of their accounts and add a credit card?
My husband has his own MDE and I have mine. When I do online checkin for our resort (through my MDE account), I set a PIN for him as well as for myself. I have a CC linked to my MDE, and that CC is the one that room charges go to whenever DH uses his MB to charge something at WDW (meals, souvenirs, whatever). So I believe that (assuming you're staying onsite) when you do online checkin, since your teens are listed on the room, you can set a PIN for each of them, and any charges they make with their MBs will be charged to the CC on file in your MDE account. You already have set up the CC/gift card for them to use for Mobile Ordering food.

They can’t use MagicMobile to charge purchases (yet).

Unless you set things up differently, any charges they make with their MagicBands will go to your resort account, and at checkout, be charged to the credit card on file for the resort stay.

I ran into trouble with this (albeit in 2015, so completely possible my experience is outdated...). We had delays - flight, Magical Express - and got in late. I had set up my credit card online and had done online check in (or something equivalent, can't remember exactly, but we skipped the front desk so I could get kids to bed ASAP). Because I didn't go to the front desk, I had no charging capability at MK the next day and no credit card or cash with me. Luckily, I had my credit card info memorized and was able to call the front desk and add it (special exception) via phone.

Thanks to all for your input. I’ll set PIN numbers for them and have them try their first purchase with me nearby.

You can definitely do one card and PINs online. They encourage contactless check in now. If you want separate cards linked to bands for people in the same room (for example traveling with a friend, sharing a room), you have to visit the desk.

(Baby hijack, sorry @123SA) Do you know if you can change PINs online for everyone? I have no idea what our PINs are any more... I'm managing everyone & everything on my MDE account.

no worries. I changed my pin online today, so yes you should be able to.

as for changing everyone else, I wa just going to have them log in and walk them through how to do it.

When I do online checkin, I can Edit everyone's PINs as part of updating checkin.

You absolutely can have separate MDE accounts and be on room reservations with other people and have everyone’s magic bands linked to the room reservation charge to that credit card. Literally have done so about 25 times in the past 5 years.

When you a check in with a credit card I always have them make sure my band is linked to my reservation. I have over 100 magic bands. My family members and I ALL have different MDE accounts and when we check in we let them know we all want to charge to the room and the card on file. This is absolutely the case. I literally do it every trip. About 50 now since magic bands were implemented.
