MDE app wait times seem great for a holiday weekend

I've checked the app for wait times a few times during the day today, and the waits are only long at a few things and are still not as long as I'd expected. Am I crazy? FEA was 120 mid-morning, bummer; but all else was manageable including 7DMT, Soarin, RnR, Everest (now listed as temporarily closed). Is WDW that less crowded that usual for a holiday weekend? Did everyone decide to avoid the holiday weekend and will be there when I am? :scared:

The crowds are a lot smaller than i expected and on july 4th in years past. We did wait for FEA a lot longer than we would wait for anything else but our APs expire next week and we won't be back for awhile

We were in Hollywood Studios yesterday and the crowd was what I would have expected. Big but not overwhelming. On Thursday, we were in MK, and it was packed (late afternoon).

Today, we were in Epcot from 9:20am to 2:00pm and it was surprisingly light. No kidding...here's how our morning went. Arrive around 9:20am. Had a FP+ for TT, so we went and did it right away. Got off the ride and checked the MDE app, it said Soarin' wait was only 20 minutes. So we booked it over to The Land. Used the Lines app to time our wait. 11 minutes and we were in our seats waiting to fly. Got out of Soarin and walked right onto Living With the Land (which never has a line anyway). Spent a few minutes in World of Coke. By then it was roughly almost 11:00am. Checked the MDE app and it said FEA was a 75 minute wait, but Lines said the actual wait time was closer to 50 minutes. As tomorrow is our last day of vacation and we had yet to get on it (and couldn't get a FP+) we decided to go for it and just wait. Our wait time??? 27 minutes. Seriously. Did a few more rides and then ate lunch. We were shocked, but very happy.

Went to Typhoon Lagoon and it started to pour 10 minutes after we put on our bathing suits. Nothing like swimming in pouring rain. :boat:

Went to HS this am and MK this afternoon. Have been able to get several immediate FPS at MK- for Haunted, Big Thunder, Pirates, Pooh, Speedway, Space and Buzz. Did all that stuff plus people mover (and stuck on it now). Go to MK at 2:30 so I think that is awesome. Oh- also stopped for dole whip. Been stuck on People Mover for about 5 minutes so far- over the speedway. Crowds are very light compared to my last trip over the fourth- about four years ago.

Peoplemover down again?? I've personally seen it evac'd three times in the past week. Not good.

I was thinking the same thing. I like checking out the wait times during busier holidays, but I was especially surprised it was so short for being the fourth.

Several years ago my family was at Disney World the last week of June -- checked out on the 30th. My sister and her family checked in on July 1st and stayed for a week. They actually had lower wait times every day other than the 4th of July than we did the week before. I thought it was very odd. Maybe it's because Disney is running most things at full capacity the week of the 4th because they know the crowds will be heavy.

What is the lines app you mentioned in post??

It's probably the Touring Plans website app. Totally worth the price of a subscription. We used it a lot on our trip last week. It shows the posted wait time as well as the estimated actual wait time. It was very accurate when we were using it. It's especially helpful if you stay until closing time when Disney tends to inflate the posted wait times. When we stayed for the evening EMH at MK the posted wait time for Space Mountain at 1:00 a.m. was 45 minutes. Touring plans showed an estimated wait time of 20 minutes. The group in front of us asked the CM at the entrance if the 45 minutes was accurate. Her response was, "Absolutely. That's a very accurate number and it will probably increase shortly. This isn't one of those times that the posted wait time is totally inaccurate." That group left and didn't get in line. We went through the line knowing full well it wasn't going to be 45 minutes. From the time we walked past that CM to the time we were walking out of the gift shop at the end of the ride was 20 minutes. Similar story at 7DMT. Posted wait of 60 minutes at 1:25 a.m. Touring plans showed 25 minutes. Actual time from entering the queue to exiting the queue at the end of the ride was 22 minutes.

ETA: I'm assuming you were asking about the "Lines app" that Klayfish referred to.

Yes, it's the Touring Lines website app. Completely worth it. We still use the MDE app, which is a good general ballpark. If the MDE app says the line is 30 minutes or more, I'll quickly jump on the Lines app to see what recent reports are. Whenever we get in a line w/out a FP+ I try to submit our wait time.

We were on epcot this morning too, and couldn't believe how light the crowd felt for summer - let alone a 3 day holiday weekend. We were in MK yesterday morning and had the same feeling/thought.

Keeping fingers crossed it stays like this tomorrow (our last day in the parks before heading to VB).
