MDE app vs "Lines" app - do I need both for wait times (leaving tomorrow)

I'm leaving tomorrow, already have all my FP+ all set, and have been using MDE online site and app thus far, but a friend has strongly recommended "lines" app (the paid vs free - I have the free one).
It's not much, but is it redundant to MDE app? How does it "know" the wait times -who has time to accurately report them all to the lines app, vs MDE getting them . Is it for the touring plans? i won't be able to completely follow since I have some FP+ in place that I want to keep.

Personally, I think you'll be just fine with the MDE app. Sitting in sunshine seasons on Saturday, I watched Living with the Land change from a 20 min wait to 10 on the sign and instantaneously change on the MDE app.

I think having the line app would just be more more thing to distract you from enjoying what's right in front of you, kwim?
Have fun!

I don't think Lines would be of much use to you if you already booked your FP+ and have generally planned your itinerary. I recently downloaded Lines and was sorry I spent the money. It seems like it is more useful for people who didn't plan anything themselves. I was surprised when I entered a "personalized plan," including indicating my FP+ times and when I hit "Optimize," the program completely ignored my FP+ reservations because the program wanted to send me to things in a different order than I had planned. For example, I have a FP+ for Kali at 4:30pm and Lines instead wanted to put me on Kali without a FP+ at 10am. Sorry, I don't want to get drenched at 10am. That's why I made a FP+ for late afternoon. I was also surprised that even though I had checked the box for "minimize walking" (I have seniors and small children in my party), TP/Lines had me zigzagging and going back and forth all over the place. I am just sticking with my own touring plan.

One possible advantage to checking the Lines app is that they get real-time information from people about how long they actually waited in line. I agree that MDE posts and regularly updates official wait times. But WDW is famous for overstating wait times at busy periods, so it can be good to know that, even though an attraction might have posted a 70 minute wait, people are reporting that they only waited 30 minutes. It might make a difference in whether you decide to try a standby line or not.
