MDE App Update & Recent “Refresh” Changes Discussion (we’re not doomed!)

I am more wondering how did they get FPs for all of the following during spring break:
  • Space Mountain
  • Splash Mountain
  • Big Thunder
  • Expedition Everest
  • 7DMT
I don't believe either are staying on-site, so three of them could have been booked at 30 days, but that means two of these very popular attractions would have had to have had same day FP availability no matter what. Something seems off on that to me.

That isn't difficult at all... I don't know how the parks were today (and I'm too lazy to check TP), but today I collected (and then subsequently dropped right away) 7 unique sets of 4 FPs to 7DMT.

That should prove there is nothing wrong with the refresh method if people can get same day for 7DMT.

the fine print saying it's not confirmed til it's confirmed is for the scenarios I described where a confirmation attempt comes far later. I'm suggesting the current behavior is in fact a bug recently introduced. I don't dispute that it's happening (on the contrary, it doesn't surprise me at all, databases are a pain!), I merely dispute that it's intentional.

Sadly, it's more likely that FPs were never meant to be reserved. And it's just now, after many years, being fixed.

I mean, consider the rolling-60 "feature"... it existed for years, and was finally patched a couple weeks ago.

They have been making pretty substantial changes to many parts of MDE over the past month or two. It stands to reason they are finally making the system work like it was intended -- and like the fine print has always said is how it should work.

You have to be VERY quick now. I can do it at home, when not distracted. In the parks will be a challenge.

And I should add I was doing on my laptop using a web browser. That is a lot easier than using the app for 7DMT.

This would be pretty doable for 2 people given enough time and refreshing, well, refreshing as we’re used to using it.

Although if one reads the written notes on the video, he says their Minnie Van driver on the ride from DAK to MK gave them a FP that they used for 7DMT.

So if the order of the video is accurate, they probably had pre-booked FPs for Space, Splash, & BTMR, hopped to DAK and somehow got a EE FP (probably refreshing), then hopped back to MK later that night and got the FP pixie dust from the Minnie Van driver they used on 7DMT. (Caveat that I didn’t watch the whole video in case they explained something different along the way).

I seriously doubt the original design was for this behavior. From a software design standpoint, it doesn't even make sense, you waste a ton of resources displaying things and then failing to get them. It would be like Amazon's website being designed to only check stock of an item after processing your payment. It just doesn't make sense. I agree some 'features' were unfixed bugs, but this new behavior (and it is new) seems way more like a bug than a design decision.

I don't buy in to the "paid FP" theory, but after hearing ideas about how the software works, what if this is a glitch, but the glitch was showing people who have not paid for a special FP the coveted times? If you've made the miracle purchase, you get to confirm. My point is they could have been putting in code that will be usable after such a product is introduced, but was supposed to be bypassed for now. Yes, some coder forgot the period at the end of the subroutine (yeah, showing my age, lol), and their future plans are now visible.

Pascal? :) I don't use much of that, but I see a surprising amount of Fortran these days in some surprisingly new systems. Their predecessors used it, and nobody really understands how it works, so they just moved it all to the new system and tried to not touch it!

Even on a busy spring break day? Seems odd to me given how everyone is saying you have to be on right when FP windows open at 7 am to get the FPs you want.

I seriously don’t know how you guys so much stuff. I was checking for 2 and never got 7DMT or FoP to stick. Not once. And I definitely consider myself a successful refresh veteran.

I just searched for 30 days out and I can find plenty of FPs for Space, Splash, and BTMR at almost any time during the day. Contrasting that with something more in the Spring Break zone, I can also book all three for this Thursday (times are more limited).

It’s really 7DMT, FoP, and SDD that are the 60 day / 7am must haves, everything else is often pretty manageable, generally speaking, regardless of time of year/crowd levels.

Were you using the app or browser? If I use my browser on my laptop, I can get 7DMT quickly using the page down key and being ready to click. But it's a LOT harder to be that quick on the app.

Its possible more is going on, but I think it’s because when anyone sees those, they grab them immediately. No one passes 7DMT for a Pooh. Even if you were originally looking to take a Pooh (FP).

I’m not talking about rides that are easy to get or have multiple times available. Single spots of rides like Everest or Space I had no problems getting to the confirmation page, several times- and I’m not that adept at refreshing.
