MDE Account Question... should I set up a second account?

I currently have a MDE account set up for myself, DH, and 3 kids. I will be taking a trip with just 1 DD, my sister, and her 2 kids. Should I set up a second MDE account that is just me, my sister, my DD, and her 2 kids, or should she set up her own MDE account, and we just link to each other? We will be staying together in the same room, on the same package, and have the dining plan together. We plan to make all FP+ and dining reservations together.

Thanks for any advise. The last time I was there was in May 2013, so FP+ hadn't been rolled out, and KTTW cards were RFID, but no magic bands.

When we went with friends, I just added them to my account. I was doing all the planning anyway. But I gave them my account log in info so they could see everything and also if they wanted to change a fastpass they could.

You can add and remove family and friends to your MDE account as needed. I would add the sister and her 2 kids and remove the ones from your immediate family that aren't going on this trip. I think it will be easier having it all in one place since you will be doing things all together.

Profiles that you manage can't be deleted once there is a MagicBand associated with it.

Sure they can...as long as they are not currently linked to anything.

Go to My Account -> My Family and Friends -> click on EDIT for what family/friend you want to remove, then scroll down to DELETE



For the OP, I would say it depends on how much your friend wants to be involved with planning. If you are handling everything, just create their account as guests under your account. If not, have her create her own, then link to each others.

No - they can't. If they have an active magic band, when you hit delete it will tell you that you cannot delete them. I put my father in law on my account last year and tried to delete him and couldn't because be had a magic band linked to his name. I had to call in and his magic band had to be completely terminated - meaning he can never use it again - before I could delete him. For this year's trip he set up his own account and I friended him.

OP - I would have them set up their own account and them become friends. Hoenstly, it takes a bit of work to set up, but I really prefer that I have control over my account so when we take trips without my in laws, or when they take trips without us, we so not have to share an account - or recreate a new one.

I agree. I feel that every distinct family unit should have their own MDE account.

Have them have own acct. and friend each other and you can check box so they only see shared plans. Like for my princess trip my DH couldn't see what I was up to but he can see stuff for our NOv trip he is going on.

I went in May with 2 friends. We all had our own separate accounts, but we linked them under friends & family to make fastpasses. We could see each other's information. Once the trip was over, we unlinked them because we have separate trips coming up. That's where you can use the friends & family edit, when you have separate accounts.

There are many ways to use Family & Friends on My Disney Experience, but I believe that Disney intends for the feature to be used in one particular way which the site doesn't explain very well. This is the way I've come to use it, and it has been working out great:

Your list of friends can be thought of as a bank of people that you know. Feel free to invite as many friends to connect to your account as you want. This just means that they'll be available to share plans with if you ever visit Disney World with them. There is no need to delete them or unlink them after your trip is over.

When you are planning for a big upcoming trip, do these two things:

1) Move everyone in your travel party into your "Family" list group from their Edit pages. Move everyone else not going with you out of the Family list.

2) Set everyone in your travel party to the "View All" permission setting. Move everyone else to "View Shared." Make sure everyone sets you to "View All" in their own accounts as well!

Doing these two things will bubble your travel party friends to the top of most lists on the website and make it easier for you to plan with/for them. The definition of Family on MDE appears to be "is planning a trip with me or travels frequently with me." Number two will ensure that you can always see their FP+ and reservations. When people here comment that they "lost" FP+ for certain friends, I always wonder if everyone in their travel party just needs to double check their "View all" permission settings for each other.

Keeping your Family list updated based on your upcoming trip is vital to keeping an organized account, I've found. Just remember: whenever you link a new friend to your account, they are put in the Family list by default!

So just so I'm clear: my sister sets up her own account, and then we link as family with the "view all" setting checked on each other's settings? Even though we are on one reservation, in same room, DDP, etc. we can still have two MDE accounts on one reservation?

Also, once she and I are linked as family, I will be able to make all FP+ reservations for the whole party at the same time?

I'm glad to be planning a year in advance, I think it may take me that long to learn all the ins and outs of this new system.

Yes. We've done a stay with three people each having their own MDE account and had no problems.
