Hi. We have friends that want to take their first Disney Cruise in Feb 2019. Two adults and two kids age 12 & 9. The only itinerary that fits their schedules is on the Magic and would include a MDAS. They aren’t into Marvel at all. Will the entire ship have everything marvel that day (activities, characters, etc) or will there be activities that aren’t centered around Marvel?

This is a link to the Navigator from our MDAS last year. The Marvel day is very Marvel.

I haven't done a Marvel cruise however I have done one SW cruise with another one coming up, plus another Fantasy cruise for 2020 that will probably be SW. I am not a SW fan, neither is my 10 year old dd. I saw the first 6 movies when they came out, my dd hasn't seen any of them. Neither of us has any interest in seeing the new ones and can't even tell you who any of the characters are in the new movies. We still enjoyed the first cruise even thought we didn't do any of the SW related stuff. I went to the spa and my dd spent some time in the kids club and we rode the Aquaduck while SW activities were occuring throughout the ship. My dh likes the movies so he did go to it on the ship.

On the other hand, there isn't anything Marvel on the pool deck besides the movies shown on the funnel, and that probably keeps the crowds away compared to the other days because they're inside doing the Marvel activities.

We booked a spring 2020 cruise, hoping that we end up on a Star Wars cruise rather than Marvel. I mean, either would be OK - but all of us are SW fans... only DH is a Marvel fan.

Is there any rhyme or reason as to which one they schedule on which cruise?

So far Fantasy has had SW and Magic has had Marvel.

There was a survey for some different themes earlier this year...hopefully some of those come to pass as well.

We were on the MDAS cruise last Oct and we are not Marvel fans at all. We did go to the Groot meet and greet just for the heck of it, but we were able to do other stuff during the Marvel Day and still have fun.

We were in the same situation last year with a Star Wars Day at Sea cruise. While my husband likes Star Wars and we went to those character meet and greets, my daughter didn't want to participate in most of those. For her, I felt like we kind of lost a day because her favorite part is the character meet and greets with Mickey, Minnie, princesses, etc., and they weren't available that day. It was a 7 day cruise though, so I'd probably do it again if that was my only option since she still got 6 days of fun stuff.

Yay! We are booked on the Fantasy! I hope the trend continues. Thanks!!

My husband isn't a Marvel fan at all (actually he doesn't like movies in general) but we went on the MDAS last October and still had a great time. We had our 2 year old granddaughter with us and she enjoyed the cruise...not because it was Marvel, just because she loved all the cruise activities. I think the friends could still go and enjoy the cruise and will be able to avoid most of the Marvel stuff on the Marvel day. It really is only one day of the cruise.

You know when you book. Dates are announced for SW or Marvel.

No. They have not announced Marvel or Star Wars until a few months after opening day for that time frame for the past couple of years. They may still announce for 2020 as nothing has been yet.

Or they could do different themes to be announced.

Marvel is only on Magic. SW is only on Fantasy. They do to move from ship to ship. After that, they change the number of cruises each year and seem to be scaling things back for next year.

That is not true. The Marvel and SW dates are not out for 2020. We booked our 2017 SW cruise on opening day and learned many months later that it was going to be a SW cruise.
