So we flew back home from Disney today and it’s been awhile since we’ve flown, but I’ve never seen them do this while ppl were going through security. They had a wide open space in the center of the security lines before you get to the point of showing your ID and boarding pass, and they made people stand two-by-two and walk slowly and had a dog sniffing every single person as you walked. There were also two men (assuming TSA) standing at the end just watching.
Is this normal now or we thought maybe there was a threat. It was definitely interesting and I for one am thankful for the extra security

It is absolutely normal, they do it when crowds are high and they need to get people through the security lines. It is much faster, the dogs can sniff for any potentially dangerous "items" and people don't need to take off their shoes when they go through security. It speeds up the process and I definitely prefer it. I've seen it done in a few of the busier airports, including Miami. It is nothing to worry about, no increased threat, it is to move the crowds efficiently and safely. In the past few months, Orlando has been one of the busiest airports in the country.

I’ve seen dogs before too but this was different. They were directing ppl to walk side by side in pairs through a wide open area before resuming the normal snaking line that you wait in. We still had to go thru regular security and take off shoes etc. It slowed things down if anything

Learn Something new everyday. I never experienced that procedure.

I've flown out of MCO three times in the past 6 months and every time I've done this, the two people walking next to each other. Did they tell you to take off your shoes or did you just automatically do it? It is normal.

Totally normal. They do this in Denver all the time. It scared my kids a little bit though because we weren't able to hold their hands. Luckily they weren't afraid of dogs.

Well I guess it must be normal then! I don’t recall them telling us to remove our shoes now that you mention it. We just did it.

I flew out of MCO yesterday. No signs of dogs or a specific formation. Mostly incompetence on display. Worst security that I have experienced. Nothing new it’s been like that for years.

This happened at MCO when we flew home in Aug. too...but only for 1 part of the line (there were 2 lines going into the regular security area.) We did not see it last week when we flew home from our most recent trip though. I assumed it was training of some sort.

Years ago flying home from MCO, TSA had one of the canines out and apparently he was new to the job or poorly trained. A little girl walked by with a Mickey Mouse toy in her hands and the dog snatched it from her and destroyed it in front of the crowd. She wasn't near the roped area, the dog was just fast. His handler removed him from the area and there were a lot of tears from a lot of kids in the area who were afraid their toys were next.

Totally normal. We've done it several times out of JFK in NY for both domestic & international.

I have seen this MANY times in MCO. They are looking for drugs, bombs, etc.
