MCO Hyatt to DTD without a car

Hi,

I'm thinking about possibly staying at the MCO Hyatt the night before our cruise and possibly taking the family out to dinner in DTD that evening. What's the best way to get there without a car? Does the hotel have a shuttle there or is there a bus we can take? How much would a taxi be?

The airport is about 25 miles from WDW. You could take a taxi (~$50 each way). It would take about 30 minutes to get to DTD from the airport.

We did this when DH and I went on our Honeymoon. We took Mears http://www.mearstransportation.com/pdf/Rates.pdf. I'm not quite sure of the price but you could call them and ask. We went down to the Mears counter at the airport and they give you a beeper (like you get at restaurants) and beep you when your shuttle has arrived.

I loved staying at the Hyatt. It was so nice and the best part is that if you are cruising with Disney you can leave your bags in your room and they will pick them up and send them to the ship. All you need is your essentials. You just have to sign up in the lobby.

I realize that you're asking for "the best way to get there without a car," but the least expensive and most convenient way to get to DTD for the evening is to rent a car. After all, you're in the airport, and the rental car companies are right there. You'll pay less than half of what you would pay for a roundtrip cab.

An added bonus is that you could also stop at Publix, Walmart, or Costco to get wine or whatever else you would like to carry onto the ship.

Really good suggestion. :thumbsup2

Holy cow! :eek::eek::eek:

Am I understanding this right? It looks like it would cost $100 for my family of 4 just to go half an hour's drive down the road to dine at DTD! Seems like it would be cheaper & faster to rent a car for a night and drive over there ourselves for under $50.

So here's a follow-up question. Is there anything interesting to do that's closer to the airport? The reason I'd wanted to go to DTD was to take the kids somewhere fun like T-Rex or Rainforest Cafe that evening. But if there's family fun closer to MCO, please tell me!

It's around a 40-mile roundtrip from MCO to DTD, and there are tolls. In almost any city in America, a 40-mile roundtrip would cost a similar amount or more.

Yes. Unless you want to avoid driving, a rental car would be a good option. With a decent coupon code, you could spend considerably less, especially if it's the weekend and there's a good weekend deal.

If you have a whole afternoon and evening, then I would bite the bullet and spend the money to go somewhere else. But for just the evening, I think you and your kids could have a good time without leaving the airport.

As airports go, Orlando is one of the best in the United States in terms of shopping. Of course it's not Downtown Disney, but it has its own appeal. There are shops run by Disney, Universal, Sea World, and Kennedy Space Center, as well as a whole bunch of other stores. The airport's mall is in the center of the terminal, but outside security, so you can easily go back and forth from your room at the Hyatt. For more details, see http://www.orlandoairports.net/guide.htm

Also, the Hyatt has an outdoor heated swimming pool. The pool is bigger and better than what you'll find on the cruise ship. You can even watch airplanes from the pool deck.
