MCO AND TOLLS

I booked a rental vehicle through Budget and I see that they have a notice that some tolls no longer accept cash and if I don't pay cash for the toll, I will automatically be charged $3.95 per day plus the cost of the tolls by Budget.

Since I'm only driving to and from the airport on toll roads, I don't want to participate in their "etoll" program. Is there a particular route I need to take to ensure I can pay the tolls? If I do pay them, is it exact cash that is required and/or is there an option to pay by credit card?

If it matters, I'm driving to Universal from the airport and from WDW to the airport.

Thanks!

528 and 417 are the toll roads between Wdw/Universal and the airport. They still accept cash. Say “no” to Budget, being some ones and quarters, and you’ll be fine.

Now if you’re driving to Miami on the turnpike, that’s a toll road that doesn’t take cash. But you’re not.

I could be wrong but the $3.95 a day might be only days you use tolls not each day you have the car, at least that's the way it was when I had a rental through Alamo last month. So you would only pay $3.95 x 2 days= 7.90 total plus any toll charges. Not great but like @bumbershoot said you can always bring ones and quarters.

Thanks bumbershoot! That's exactly what I needed to know. Appreciate it!

Jimsig - it is actually for all the days of the rental period.

You are wrong. Budget will charge $3.95 a day even if you only use it one day, up to a maximum ($19.95 I think). Alamo is a different company with different rules. I HATE Budget's policy, we accidentally went over a toll bridge in Seattle a couple of weeks ago and I'm waiting for my charges to hit.

i always go through Alamo in Orlando, and bring my roll of quarters. Budget was a lot cheaper in Seattle but my navigator forgot to put 'avoid tolls' into Google maps.

"If you do not pay cash for tolls, you automatically opt into our e-Toll service, pursuant to which you agree to pay us our or our toll program administrator, with whom we will share your credit card/debit information, for all tolls incurred during your rental and all related fees, charges and penalties. Under the e-Toll program, once you pass through an electronic toll, you will pay a convenience fee of $3.95 for each day of the entire rental period, including any days on which e-Toll is not used, up to a maximum of $19.75 per rental month, plus incurred tolls at the maximum prevailing rates posted by the toll authority. You can avoid the convenience fee and any other charges by paying the toll in cash, using your electronic toll device, or avoiding any cashless toll road or passage. Please be aware of roads that maybe “cashless tolls” and drivers on these roads are not able to pay cash once they have entered these roads. You automatically opt into our e-Toll service program and will be charged $3.95 for each day of the entire rental period, including any days on which e-Toll is not used, up to a maximum of $19.75 per rental month, plus incurred tolls at the maximum prevailing rates posted by the toll authority. The charges may take 4-8 weeks after the rental to be billed to your credit card/debit card on file."

The 520 bridge? I hate that it went to a toll road. Hate it.

YES! I saw as I was entering, but it was a bit too late to get out of it. We took 90 the rest of the time. Our son lives in Redmond and we were staying at a really nice VRBO in Bellevue, and made that mistake once.

Using Hertz, I went through the construction area going from the Florida Turnpike to 528 towards the airport. There were jersey barriers and it was raining and I missed the signs and took the right side exit as we rounded the curve and were approaching the toll booths. This was wrong, I should have gone straight to get to the toll booths. My credit card was billed a few weeks later for about $25; this was a 5-day rental.

I feel your pain! My Budget toll charge came today - we hit one electronic bridge with a $4.95 toll, Budget total charges of $24.70 (that's including the maximum $19.75 charges for a 5 day rental!!!!!) It will be a while before I forgive Budget enough to rent from them again.

Take 417 S. to exit 6. You will have manned tolls just stay to right when entering tolls... thinks its 1.50 ea one. there`s only a couple tolls 2 or 3 to exit 6. (Sorry missed the going to universal from airport part of post)

I have to go to the Airport and back twice during our trip. Will one roll of quarters cover me or do I need more?

On 417 between WDW and MCO, there are two $1.50 tolls each way, assuming you get on 417 from World Center Drive. That makes it a $6 round trip. One roll of quarters will not quite do it, but there are manned toll booths on 417, so you could just use those for a couple of the tolls.

Based on this I assume I can get to Legoland as well and still pay the tolls? Someone was trying to argue with me last night that I HAVE to have a Sunpass to Travel MCO to LEgo to AKL to MCO.

Mco to legoland per google is 417 to 4 to 27 to 540. If 417 is the only toll road you do NOT have to have a sunpass. There are cash lanes. That’s part of this thread.

The traffic backups are greatly reduced now though. Plus driving around on I-90 actually costs more is extra miles, time, and wear and tear to your car creeping along at 5mph on I-90. If you want to avoid the tolls just take the bus or ride your bike.

YOU do NOT NEED a Sunpass as pointed out in post 15.

When you join Hwy I-4 & then Hwy 27 ( South ) to LEGOLAND there are NO Tolls
