I remember back in the 70s, the local independent TV station was running Star Trek reruns at around dinner time 5 nights a week, and McDonald's was having a Happy Meal/Star Trek promotion of some sort. So, for about a full month, nearly every night of the week, my dad, after coming home from work hot and tired, would bring me to the McDonald's and buy me a Happy Meal.
It was sooo great! Time with Dad on the way to/from McDonald's, a delicious dinner, and watching one of our favorite shows together! What a wonderful time.
Of course, once I got my drivers' license, part of the excitement of having my own car (and part time job) was being able to go to fast food restaurants any time I wanted. I ate Wendy's, McDonald's, Burger King, Carl's Junior, Jack-in-the-Box, or some other form of fast food (like pizza or hot dogs) most nights of the week.
And boy could I eat! I was a teenaged boy, so eating a large pizza with all the toppings was no problem. I remember my friend and I going to Burger King, ordering 12 cheeseburgers, 6 large fries, two large Cokes, and two shakes, and having no problem eating it all between the two of us. And both of us were very skinny!
Eventually I changed, or they changed, or something. I haven't been to a chain fast food restaurant in years, and have only been to locally owned hot dog stands and the like a few times a year. But boy was it great while it lasted! There's nothing that satisfies your hunger quite so well as a quarter pounder with cheese - or three - when you're young.
