McCain


McCain has experienced war so he knowns what he is talking about. Everyone just assumes he wants too stay there. What was the point of going over there (Iraq) if Obama just takes us out right when he gets into office.

Lots of people have experienced war. And most of them know to avoid it at all costs because all it does is get people killed and tear apart families and countries.

And, the "point" of going over there was to find the WMDs that the CIA said they had. Except, you know, they don't really have them.

Another interesting point- you wanna know how Saddam got in power? We put him there because he was against the USSR during the Cold War and the US felt that we needed an ally over near Russia- somebody ruthless who wouldn't be afraid to get their hands dirty for us. So, we chose Saddam Hussein. And then when we realized our mistake, we couldn't admit it because then the government would have to ADMIT THEY WERE WRONG! We sold them most of the munitions, too, BTW. So, we had to go in, start a war and bomb the living hell out of innocent people because of something we screwed up to begin with. IT'S ALL OUR FAULT!

I'm also pro-choice, anti-war, and I generally agree with Obama (my mother, however, still has that Cold War anti-socialist side to her and thus, fears Barrack and his healthcare/college plan. I like it. I'll admit it, I'm all for socialized healthcare.). So, if I were 18, I'd be voting for Obama.

so when 9/11 happened and the terrorists attacked us, we should have just done nothing and not fight against terrorism and wait for another attack?

9/11 sparked the war in afghanistan, not the war in Iraq. We were justified in going into afghanistan, at least a little. We knew that was where Bin Laden was hiding, we knew he was the mastermind behind the attacks. Iraq is a who 'nother mess.

We should slowly leave and let them go back to how they were living.

Exaclty. We can't just sit here and do nothing and wait for more attacks. It would put everyone in danger.

Because they've attacked us soooooo many times unprovoked. Once or twice. Really.

My mom just told me that she saw on some other boards that Obama said that their was 57 states . If you want to be the president of the united states..... i think you have to know how may states there are.

He was referring to the fact that there are 57 primaries/caucuses/election days to elect a president.

50 States.
Perto Rico.
The US Virgin Islands.
American Samoa.

You get the idea.

I didn't think that Peurto Rico and the Virgin Islands and all of our other "territories" voted in our elections. I could be wrong though.

I don't care how many houses he owns. Some are for invesements so it doesn't matter.

Like how is criticizing McCain helping? When it's ironic that McCain wasn't the one buying a house from a felon..

Actually, some belong to his ex-wife (wives? I'm not positive on how many exes this guy has). And I read somewhere that he cheated on his wife. Can anybody confirm that?

I believe they do. As they are governed by our government. I could be wrong. But I am fairly certain that there are more than 50 primaries/whatevers.

***ETA: I looked it up, I was half-right. They get some votes in the primaries, but not the final election. Puerto Rico and DC do, at least. Finding stuff on Guam and American Samoa was iffy.

In my opinion, that would completely contradict the whole "separation of church and state" idea. That idea, I believe, is an important part of the religious freedom guaranteed to Americans by the First Amendment.
If creationism is taught in the classroom, that is basically teaching parts of Christianity to kids who's family could have totally different beliefs.

That's why I am for Obama in this election.
I was always for him, but after listening to his acceptance speech at the convention, he convinced me even more that he is the right man for the job.

Once again, separation of church and state is for taxational purposes only. It has nothing to do with what can and can't be taught in schools and so on.

I don't have anything to add to the discussion, but I did want to say while I was eating out at a resturant yesterday there was this little boy talking about the election with his parents.

He was probably around 8 or 9.
I just thought it was really cool that a younger kid is taking notice in politics or at least the candidates.

First off, I don't like either of our candidates this year but I have to support Mccain because I don't support the Democratic ideas of raising taxes and pulling our troops out just yet. I think Obama has more people pulling for him right now, but most of them are young people. Polls show that young people are less likely to vote. It frustrates me because I see a lot of Obama supporters at my school and when I ask them why, they don't know. They just like him because it's cool to like him.

OK here is my 2 cents (mind you I didn't real every single response, only skimmed)

I am an independent voter. Right now I plan on voting Obama, but my opinion can be swayed. I remember one of Obama's big flaws was his lack of knowledge about Foreign Policy....well his VP nominee clinched my vote. Biden knows A LOT about Foreign Policy, so that makes me like Obama more.

Obama has a strong plan for our Economy. He encourages tax cuts for the working class (unlike Bush's tax cuts for the WEALTHY...hmmmm). Obama plans on eliminating our need for Middle Eastern oil within 10 years, that is a beautiful goal and something I respect.

Some reasons why I probably won't vote McCain...

His age. I know age shouldn't be a big factor. However, if elected, he will probably be serving our country for the next 8 years. Had he picked a great VP nominee....maybe I would feel different. BUT, his VP (Palin) does not have the skills to run the country if he has an accident. His VP is week and looks like a plea for some female voters.

McCain has stated he will keeps troups in Iraq for over 100 years if necessary. Obviously an exaggeration, but he has the power to keep troups there and clearly has the will.

He made a statement about now even know the number of houses he owns. (I think the number is 7) Clearly he is wealthy, and probably basking in Bush's tax cuts for the wealthy. Do we really need another close-minded, doesn't-affect-me, republican president. NO its time for change.
