MB+ Purchase through app & MB alternative

Two questions, both MB related...

1) Our trip is next month. DD & DSiL want MB+. DD's is available through the app (at a discount price), but the one DSiL wants is not. There are only 7 listed as available through the app. Does it make any sense to wait a week or so before ordering to see if the one he wants is listed? Or is there a chance the one DD wants gets sold out? Our trip is next month, so we have some time to wait, but not a lot. Would have ordered earlier if I had realized that could be an issue.
2) I don't think I want a MB (I have one from 2016 I'll bring "just in case"), and just plan on using KTTW card. I know it will be used for DDP and Extended Evening Hours (they scan for each ride, correct), in addition to opening the room. I was thinking about putting it into a plastic pouch

using a retractable badge holder

and just clipping it on a belt loop. Then I don't have to worry about it falling out of a pocket, digging it out of my wallet, and it's easy to access. I'll also have my phone, but if the battery dies, that's out.

I already have these, so it's not a money thing (even if I didn't, it would be ~$10).

Would I look like an idiot? I thought about a lanyard (like on a cruise), but figured that might be a little "too much". lol

You can wear whatever you wish and be fine. My bigger concern with lanyard is would it fly around on some of the bigger coasters?

The MB+ listed on the website at a discount may be there for some time or may sell out. There really is no way to know when a version will sell out.

There also is no pattern as to when more MB+ will be added to the site or what options will be there.

If it were me I’d purchase the one you want now at a discounted price then pay full price for the second one as it means both will get the ones they want.

I wouldn't do a lanyard. I'm thinking the retractable holder and clipping to a belt loop. If on a bigger coaster, extend the holder and tuck the KTTW card in pocket (if necessary).

I'd do the MB you have from 2016, it'll still work for tapping, just wont work for the ride photo stuff.

Another option is if you have a smartwatch, can set that up to act as a MB. I don't think it works to open the room door, but you can use your phone for that bit.

I can't really stand MB+, but if you want a "new" mb can you try buying a sealed one from ebay. Just make sure its sealed as once connected to an account, you cant swap it to another.

I'd wait a bit and keep checking the MB site through your reservation to see if becomes available at the discounted price. I check daily (not sure what I'm looking for though lol) and the inventory changes rapidly. Yesterday 7 were available, today is 19. Weird.

I will also be there next month!

Oh, thanks! The one DSiL wanted is now available! I wasn't sure how often it updated.
