Staying at the GF in February for convention...DW will be joining me and we are staying a few extra days for some R&R. Not even sure if we will be visiting the parks during this trip due to other off site adventures planned and if we do visit the parks it probably will be a "4 parks in one day" power trip.

We have park tickets(no expiration) scattered across multiple KTTW cards due to the water parks and more are too old to be transferred so we always bring all of our old cards with us and let the cast member at the resort figure it out.

My question is that in reading over many of the posts on these boards about the problems with the magic bands, I am reluctant about using them with all of our KTTW card issues especially considering it's possble we may not even visit one of the parks during this Feb visit.

I am assuming that the use of the MB is voluntary and if we want to stay with the KTTW card we can, so should I just "punt" on use of the MB during this trip and wait for all of the bugs to be worked out for a later 2014 or 2015 trip to use the MB?

I visited WDW in October and was offered the MB. Based on its recent release and still undergoing testing I elected not to have a MB. My friends did choose to use the MB and although they liked many things about it they had problems entering the parks and had to go to guest services to fix them before they where allowed in the parks. Although they experienced some issues they said that Disney was really working to correct the problem. I'm sure at some point soon MB will work perfectly but if still given the choice I would stick with my KTTW.

It is my understanding is that ALL park entry turnstiles are now RF chip only, either card or MB. You will likely have to have your old tickets transferred to new RF enabled cards to enter any park. I had no problem with my MB during my recent trip, BUT I can certainly see how having multiple tickets tied to a single guests profile could cause confusion or errors in the system.

If I had multiple passes, I'd just use them on RF cards, rather than tie them to a MB. But you should still be able to use MB as your room key and for room charging.

We absolutely loved the Magic Bands on our November trip. Don't let the bad reports sway you, there have been far more positive reports than negative. That, in itself, is telling as people are much more likely to complain than to compliment.

You do not have to be visiting the parks to use Magic Bands. They are, basically, wearable KTTW cards. You will be able to use them for Magical Express (if you are using it), to open your resort room and to charge purchases to your account. If you do visit the parks and link your tickets to your MDEx profiles you will be able to use the bands for park entry and FP+ redemption.

One of the things we liked best about the bands is that they are completely waterproof. This meant we could head to the pool wearing our bands and not have to worry about a room key to make purchases or to get back into our room when we returned. We are definitely looking forward to using MBs and FP+ over New Year's week.

Hope you have a great trip! :)

I wouldn't be surprised if by Feb the KTTW cards will be phased out at all the hotels. It's gone in a couple now.

We will be at VGF in Feb. too and I'm hoping a lot more of the bugs will be worked out.

Heading to the pool without a card will be nice.

I agree with this too. I expect they'll be phased out February also.

I should explain better- I believe magnetic stripped KTTW will be gone. They will still have non magnetic KTTW for guests unable or unwilling to wear a magic band.
