Mazatlan Beaches

For anyone who has been to Mazatlan before, do you know if they have any public beaches that we could easily get to from the port and that are safe?

I was there once...it was SO long ago but I do remember taking a taxi to a beach that wasn't so far away. Thinking back we were nuts to do it..we were 2- 20 year old females, there was not a sole on the beach except for us....not exactly a safe thing to do in a strange place.....plus it was so cold and windy- it was Feb. and the weather was not so great.

We were there about two years ago. If you go to the Golden Zone - which should be easy to catch a taxi to - most of the beachs are public. We stayed in the La Playa and the beach just behind the hotel was public. They had a nice resturant and ice cream parlor and clean restrooms. There was public vendors outside offering parasailing for $25.00.

Thanks for the info.
Does anyone have any opinions on doing it this way vs a beach excursion? Im having a hard time thinking of paying 176.00 for us to go to the beach for a few hours. I just seems like so much for something we could do relatively cheaper on our own.
BTW, great pictures Monstro! Wish I were there now.

I know it's easy for me to say because I've been there,but we felt very safe everywhere in Mazatlan. The taxi ride from old Down town to the La Playa was about 15 minutes. The Port is probably about 5 more minutes. The good thing about Hotel Playa is it is right in the middle of the Golden Zone.... All the shops. I think the taxi ride - which was actually a truck with benches in the back was about $5.00 per person.
