Does anyone here own these?

We're looking for a new washer/dryer set and this is what I'm leaning toward, but wanted to see if anyone here had any feedback regarding reliability on these, or any other comments.

TIA!

I dont, but posting because your sexy

Kathy- I have a Neptune front-loader. Is that a version of the Atlantis?

The Neptune and Atlantis are a little similar, but the Atlantis is still more like a conventional washer with a regular agitator.

The outside design of them looks very similar, though.

Do you like your Neptune?

I have the Neptunes and HATE them. Pieces of junk that have cost me an extra $100 in service calls (had to replace a $400 part which was still under warranty). I wish I would have bought the Atlantis actually. I won't buy any more Maytags after this disaster though.

I think there are more reliable brands out there than Maytag. We haven't had good luck with our Maytag Neptune washing machine. We had to have the motherboard and motor replaced after two years. Maytag did reimburse us for parts but we still had to pay for the service. Not very cool when you pay over $1000 for the machine.

Well, I have been OK w/ my Neptune. I had heard about the potential problems so I bought the extended warranty (which I never do).
Everyone in my family had the Neptunes before me and no one I knew personally had had any problems and they all loved them so I made the plunge.
With the extended warranty, extra cables, tax and everything it came right at $2000. No I never thought I would spend that much on a washer and dryer but laundry is my least favorite household chore and if I could cut the time in half, I thought it was worth a try.

We've had a Neptune for about 5 years, really like it and have had no problems. I've read here that the newer models are not as reliable as the older ones were.

I bought those and my dishwasher at the Sears outlet, saved a couple of $100 off the prices for small scratch/dent type stuff. I noticed they've opened a store at Grapevine mills too, might be worth checking to see if they have the model you want after you decide.

From consumer reports

Maytag to compensate owners of Neptune washers

Maytag’s Neptune front-loading washer, introduced in 1997, has proven to be trouble-prone in recent years, with a repair rate significantly higher than that of any other front-loader brand we’ve rated in our annual reliability survey.

A group of Neptune owners sued Maytag, charging that their washers were plagued by a host of problems resulting in mold and mildew buildup, odors, and poor performance. On Sept. 10, 2004, the company announced that it is settling the class-action suit.

Maytag agreed to reimburse owners of faulty machines for repair costs, compensate for up to $500 people who replaced a Neptune with another washer, or issue a voucher for $200 to $1,000 toward the purchase of a new Neptune Top Loader. The settlement covers any Neptune front-loaders bought from April 1, 1997, to Aug. 9, 2004. As this report went to press, the settlement was awaiting approval by the Circuit Court for the 20th Judicial Circuit in St. Clair County, Ill.

Aside from obvious trouble signs--mold, mildew, or odors--the settlement covers machines that experience “motor control and circuit board related failure.” It also covers problems concerning the door latch and a related part known as the wax motor.

Unfortunately, it's not as simple as getting the $ from consumer reports (as posted above). There was a class action suit filed and it's being held up now b/c a few people filed appeals. Not everyone who had problems with the Neptunes will get compensated. For instance, I had mold issues twice with them and the circuit board failed, but the circuit board did not fail ($500) at the same time as the motherboard, lol, therefore, I may not get a new machine or $. Oh well.

We have the Maytag Atlantis washer and dryer for 4 years now and have not had any problems with either. We love them.

Well my good luck with my Neptune ran out, it stopped working. This thread was timely since I'd found the information about the settlement. Called the number and sounds like it will be covered with free repairs. Not bad since I purchased it in 06/2000.

Quess I even sent the warranty card in on this one so they had all the information needed except the purchase date and I got that from my financial software.
