Hi There,
We are thinking of buying a new home down in Mays Landing and I was curious if anyone on here lives or has lived in Mays Landing and if so what did you think of the schools? I believe the elementary school my DD would go to is Hess. Any and all help is much appreciated.:)

I personally don't know anything about the Mays Landing schools, but one of my husband's friends lives in Mays Landing. They thought the elementary school was fine, but didn't like the high school as much.

Thanks for the response. I appreciate it. I know there is a private school in Mays Landing so I suppose that could always be an option if we do decide to purchase the home. Thanks again.:)

I lived in Mays Landing for 8 years went to middle, and high school there, had my first child and got married there...Elementary schools were ok, middle was ok, Oakcrest high was ok...Holy spirit private school always had more stabbings and fights than Oakcrest. When I was in school the ratio was like half white and the other half hispanic and african american, which i never had any problems blending in, I love all people! I was at William davies middle school the year it opened..I don't know exactly what you are looking for..to me it was your everyday place to live, I lived off HArding highway...but if ya need more info i can help if ya need!!!

Thanks for the reply...........but I must say to hear about stabbings and fights is a little scary. I want a place that is safe for my children to play outside. I want a place that has neighbors that look out for each other. I do want good schools but I know that private schools are always and option but then sometimes they are no better than the public school. NJ is so expensive and we actually found a brand new house that will be built for you in Eagles Mere(A Ryan Homes Community) for 330k with all the options we picked and the taxes are not so bad. The house is very close to the mall down there and all kinds of shopping. I know in the summer we would be able to go to the beach without driving an hour and 20 min(that's are far it is now). We have not put any money down so I still have time to do some research. Thanks again.

I live about 20 minutes from Mays Landing, and have only heard of 1 or 2 stabbings at Oakcrest High School, and that was a few years ago. Of course you don't want to hear of any stabbings, but it isn't something that happens all the time. It was a big deal when that happened - it was all over the news and the newspapers. They increased their security after that (according to the newspapers). I also grew up very close to Holy Spirit High School in Absecon and have NEVER heard of any stabbings there. My parents also have a friend that has taught there for years, so I'm sure I would have heard about it if there were any incidents. My neice and nephew currently go to Holy Spirit HS, and they have not mentioned any violent incidents.
As far as the private schools near MaysLanding, there is a Catholic elementary school - St. Vincent de Paul in MaysLanding that is PK-8. There is also a Christian school - Atlantic Christian School that is PK-12 that is in Egg Harbor Township, which is the next town over. Holy Spirit High School is in Absecon (about 20 minutes away), and I'm pretty sure they have bussing to MaysLanding, as they have students from all over. I did not go there, but know many people that did. There is also Pilgrim Academy (PK - 12) in Galloway but that is a little further away.
My husband's friend lives in MaysLanding and finds his neighborhood to be very safe. He just wasn't crazy about Oakcrest High School. His daughter graduated from Oakcrest but they decided to send their son to Atlantic Christian School, because they weren't happy with Oakcrest.

Thanks so much for all the info. We really did enjoy the atmosphere down there while we were looking at the model home. I am not a huge NJ fan (I have lived here basically since I was 6(about 8 months of that was spent in Fl when I was 20)and I am now 31) but this is where my husbands job is and I don't think it is so wise to be searching for a new job now. My husband and I said if we are "stuck":rotfl: in NJ, near the shore is the place to be. Thanks again.:)

Well, NJ is very expensive , car insurance, taxes, food everything is so expensive there! It is true you do get payed more than you do here in FL, my father was a plumber at the casino and got payed 24.00 an hr, we moved to FL, they offered him 7 an hour, so that was scary, but most things are cheaper here. I go up to Nj to visit family and can't believe you pay 5-7 bucks for a box of cereal! Here you can find a really nice home for 100,000..NJ would be more like 300,000!! We bought our first home here it was a 2 bedroom, 2 bath, for 44,900. Car insurance is 1,000 a yr here. PLus I like not living on top of my neighbor here. The only thing I miss from NJ is Wawa!!!
BUt, everyone has there own liking ...and to each is own!!

Believe me if I could move to Fl I would in a heart beat. That is the whole reason we have not bought a house in NJ yet is bc both my husband and I want to be in FL but the jobs down there and especially now do not pay him what he is making as you pointed out. My brother lives in Lakeland with 2 girls, one the same age as my daughter and the other 8 months older than my son. My brother and I are very close, talk every day, and it makes me upset that I can not see him and his family more but my husbands job is here in NJ and right now that is where we have to be. I hope that one day we will be able to move to FL. :)
