Maybe silly question... 2 year olds and buffet

I know that my DS (2.5) will be free to eat at the buffets. But I keep seeing folks say that they are "free to eat off our plate." Is that literally the case that I have to share a plate with my DS or can we just get him his own plate? As long as we let the server know that he's 2, does it matter? He's rather independent and likes have his own plate, fork, etc.

It's been a little while since I had wee one, but I recall that when the boys were 2 they had their own plate, and of course they have their own silverware. We never had a problem with it. My boys have always liked to eat, so this was a great way for us to eat at WDW, especially at character meals.

Yes-I would make them their own plate and they would have their own napkin, silverware, etc. It all was fine. I think we may have had to pay for their drink.

No, it's not literally off your plate He can definitely have his own.

Children under 3 are not charged and they can have their own plate. No need to force him to eat off yours.

I think the feel free to eat off your plate is for the sit down resturants where you order off the menu. So you can either order a meal for the 2.5 year old or split your meal with them for no extra charge.

Yes, how I miss those days and not just at Disney. My son was 2.5 during our 2012 trip. Knowing it was his last “free” trip we loaded up. We ate at Chef Mickey’s, Ohana, Crystal Palace, Garden Grill, Tusker House, and Akershus for breakfast. All buffets where he had his own plate and there was no extra charge for his meal.

In 2013, not only was he 3, but my daughter turned 10. Enjoy.

My almost 4 year old eats like a bird, it saddens me she can't share a plate

My four year does too, but I understand the policy ... they have to draw the line somewhere.
