Maybe one park day? Help me w/ FP+ and tix purchase

DH and I currently have a no park trip planned for March. But with the flower and garden festival being at Epcot I am thinking we might want one day there. So here are my questions:

1. If we wait to purchase our 1 day ticket until the day before/day of will we have any choice of FPs. (I think we would be going on Monday, March 24)? We would plan to be there ALL day so we would be flexible with times just want to be sure we can get them.

2. If we purchase a 1 day ticket and link it in MDE now so I can plan our FPs but decide not to go can I save that 1 day and upgrade it for our May trip? This one day ticket will technically not be activated, right?

Which strategy would you use?

1. Three FP+ choices, made at a FP+ kiosk IN the park, on the day(s) you are there.

2b & c. The ticket will not be activated until you go into a park.

2a. Maybe. Advance FP+ will work only if you ALSO are registered for a WDW resort stay.

Thanks for the response so....If I choose this option will there still be FP+ times left on the day of touring.
