Maybe, Kinda Sorta, I Don't Know If I AM Going to Run in February

One thing I realized after the ToT race was that tutus do not work well for me. I have short legs and a mid section that is larger than it really should be. Not giving too much away before I get there in my TR... lets just say the tutu was not the most flattering on me.

This has really made it hard to decide what to wear for the race. When registering, I chose Raphunzel as my princess. This means my bib will be purple. This at least gave me a starting point. So the shoes I got where these

From there, I have just not been sure. I have thought about buying or making a sparkle skirt. I do have a pair of short black compression shorts that would work well under either. I have also thought maybe I might just buy a running skirt. I will be honest though, I find it hard to spend money on a bottom piece I may only wear once.

I did find two shirts though that I liked.

Now the one on the right is a perfect match to the purple on the shoes. It also has the pink that I would expect to go along with Raphunzel. It fits well and my "problem area" would be nicely covered by the bib. If I pick this shirt, I will likely make a sparkle skirt to wear with it. (I even found a video that shows how and it looked super simple)

The one on the left though is a nice regal purple. The stripes on it are actually rather subdued. I would wear a compression black tank under it and since it is a "bubble" shirt on the bottom I wouldnt have to worry about tummy or hips looking bad. With this I would wear a pair of black compression capris.

BTW.. for those who do not know what I mean when I say compression... think spandex skin tight..holds you in. ;)

Today I happened to be looking at the disney movie rewards merchandise. I came across this.

I didnt want to wear a crown, but was wondering if I wanted something on my head. This is like the color of the dark purple tank. Couple problems though... when I ordered it, it said it took 6 to 8 weeks. :faint: The next issue is that it is actually a child size. This probably isn't an issue since most hats I can wear run on the small size and I actually have bought child size caps before. So my plan is to see if this a. comes in and b. actually fits me. If it doesn't fit it can go to Zoe and if it doesn't come in.. well, it isn't' like there won't be another time that it could be worn.

Zoe picked her outfit out already and is happy with it. She is gravitating away from pink. :faint: and so when she saw this she had to have this as her outfit.

She will wear her purple shoes (more that deep purple) that I bought her after her race in November.

Since all princesses are required to be at the race extremely early, it is often dark and cold. One of the first steps after arriving at the race is to check a bag. Basically, it is anything you want for right after the race but not during. This however leaves some time to sit and shiver. From what I read then, people bring items that they then toss. It is Disney policy to gather up items left behind or discarded along the course and donate them.

First item I knew I would want was some sort of blanket to sit on and wrap up in. I am a bit attached to my blankets so I figured I would get one from goodwill.

This is what I found.

It is a sleeping bag that has pooh and piglet on it. It is is really nice shape. I hate to leave it behind. Zoe even was upset at how nice it was and how she wanted it. Sadly though... it isn't possible to run the entire phm while carrying it. And... for the $1.29 I spent on it... it certainly is affordable to toss.

At Dollar Tree I bought some hand and toe warmers. So I should be able to keep warm prerace.

As the race starts I will likely still be cold though so I will need to have items to discard along the route.

I got some after christmas clearance purple and black gloves and also found a black hooded sweatshirt (with rhinestones on it) that I can wear until I get too warm.

I think I am set on my throw aways. :goodvibes

I really like both tops but for different reasons. The lighter one seems more princessy. The striped one I just plain like for anytime lol! Love the hat idea. What you you more comfortable in on bottom for actually running, the shorts or capris? I'd focus on that and build around it. Would the skirt bug you? I'd have a hard time buying a running skirt too if I didn't think I'd use it in real life. Heck I have 2 skorts that I don't wear as activewear despite that's what they are meant for. If you do the sparkle skirt you'll want to test drive it at least once to make sure it moves ok.

Love your throwaways!

Catching up on your updates!

Zoe is so cute in her little cheerleading outfit!

So glad that Steve was able to go back to work and got his time off for the trip approved.

I hope all goes well and your time off is approved as well.

Your outfit is coming together nicely....I like all the purple! :thumbsup2

Thanks, I like both shirts for different reasons too...and for the same as you mentioned. The lighter one is much more princessy... and would go much better as raphunzel. However, since I am not planning a full out costume (I am not sure how people run in them) I am not sure it matters. The darker one just if more something I would wear normally on a run. (if weather was really warm) As for shorts vs. capris...well, I am more comfortable running in the capris. the shorts, are SUPER short and at the end of the ToT when I looked at the pics I kinda think I looked like I was wearing briefs. :scared: They work well under something... The capris are tight..but allow for more modesty. I definitely will try a skirt out prerace should I do a skirt though. I think that is one of the problems I had with the tutu... I had never ran in it. My running partner made them and then brought them with her. Zoe had told her also that I was bigger than she is. Well, bless my dd... but I think she meant to say taller. It was however taken to mean...larger. So at first the tutu just slipped down as the waist was too big. My running partner cinched it up for me... but I think it didn't quite fit right the entire time and often the strands got a bit to "personal" if you know what I mean and I was constantly trying to remove them from unwanted areas. ;)

I will actually post an update regarding this.

Thanks, even if it isnt a total costume..at least I like the color theme.

Yesterday was the day that I was going to touch base with my manager.

Well, Wednesday night I got violently ill. I have not been so sick in a good decade. I wont go into the horrible details, but my night involved a bad stomach bug that made me not take my medication that then is probably what led to me passing out which let to some minor injuries. Needless to say I didn't a. go for my scheduled 3 mile run nor did I go to the meeting. I spent all day in bed and even today am far from 100%

Why I wanted to go to the meeting so bad (aside from the free food ;)) was that it is not uncommon for me to go months without seeing a coworker and or my manager. I felt as though I really should talk in person about what to do rather than try and text it or email it to her.

Well, today I texted her a bit and found she was at the doctor. She has pnumonia :scared: I am not sure it is the viral kind... but I can take some comfort in missing the meeting knowing that I would have been exposed...and while this bug has been extreme and made me miss a training day... I will be over it well in time for the phm. Had I come down with pneumonia...it could be weeks... and I don't have weeks.

In texting her though, I did mention that she and I needed to talk about the next cycle with work because I would be gone. She has yet to respond to that text...so we will see. I can already start to see tasks filtering in for next month and there are ones that will conflict with the time I need to take off. I am not sure how we are going to handle it. Some... I can do a day or so early and it wont be a problem..others might be a big deal.

Ok that is :rotfl: about the tutu strands. That would have driven me nuts!

I can't do compression shorts. I've tried and I don't care what brand, what cut, they ride up to the point of just not being comfortable. And yeah, looking like briefs. Maybe it's my midsection, maybe it's my short waist, maybe it's my thighs but UGH. Bike shorts, the long kind, aren't so bad but at that point a capri isn't a heck of a lot different and if more comfortable, definitely they way I'd go. I think you should keep the striped top regardless, It's just a great top!

I'll look forward to the saga of the sparkle skirt if you decide to try it.

There is NASTY stuff going around. Jeff got a bug, has been out of work for 2.5 days and this is a man who got his flu shot and according to him hasn't been sick in 17 years. He's full of it, I can think of a couple of times but I've never seen him hit this hard. Thankfully the rest of the house seems fine so far but ICK.

I hope your manager gets back to you but am really glad you weren't exposed to each other.

It did.. but I really was grateful that my partner had taken the time to make it for me. She put in a lot of effort...and she didn't have to so I wore it.

You are so slim! I cant imagine they would not look good on you... but midsection...short waist..all that sounds familiar

I think you should keep the striped top regardless, It's just a great top!

I plan to keep it for sure! I too like it regardless. And when the summer months come and I am training for the ToT... I will need something that I can survive the heat in.

I'll look forward to the saga of the sparkle skirt if you decide to try it.

I will be sure and share. I am leaning toward the capris and purple tank though...if only because I got an email that the hat shipped today. So maybe it will be here in time..and if it matches then I will just go with that ensemble.

I have been sick here and there... but more "icky don't feel good" not... "dying can't move passing out and all an all wishing I were dead" so I can relate to that. I do hope Jeff feels better soon! 2.5 days is hard to be down!

I hope your manager gets back to you but am really glad you weren't exposed to each other.

Yeah.. she didn't need my crud any more than I needed hers. I am sure she will need me to remind her again that we need to touch base. She has so many people under her that she HAS to worry about that I think she tends to forget about me. :rotfl:

:rotfl2: Not being a native hit again. Had to read your post about the tutu twice to fully understand. :rotfl2:
But yip, I DO understand that you don't want to wear one again.

On the other hand, I really really hope that you can work out work issues. And here's some healing pixiedust: for you, so you get back to health fast. You were so lucky not to go to that meeting. Pneumonia is NO fun to deal with!

:rotfl2: Glad you were able to get what I was saying. ;) Thanks for the healing pixiedust: I am feeling much better. I even went on a couple runs without dying. I am still a bit dehydrated though...so that didn't make the runs all that great.

You poor thing!! I'm so sorry you got so sick and injured!

I sure hope you're able to work out the work stuff for your trip. :goodvibes

Thanks. I am feeling better. Not 100%, but I did manage to run about 9 miles total since being sick...

As for work stuff. Turns out my manager is going on vacation RIGHT before I leave and needs me to pick up some slack for her. :faint: I reminded her A gain...about my trip and she needs to talk with me. I told her I was sorry to have to be gone during a busy time at work, and she assured me it wasn't a problem. She just needs to meet with me in person before we both go away. So I have NO idea what she needs to talk to me about.

Oh goodness! Hope it isn't too bad! At least she said your trip isn't a problem though.

Ann, I'm so sorry you got so violently ill. Luckily, I did not do any throwing up, I just had the other end misfortune. I hope you are feeling better.

Love the tops, and love the Pooh sleeping bag!

Sorry to hear you've been sick. Very cute running outfits and love the purple running shoes. Zoe's outfit is cute too.

I just wish she would tell me what it is that she wants to discuss! She leaves for her vacation in a week..so some time this week we will be meeting... hope she decides when soon.

Thanks... I never get that sick. In fact, I was thinking if I had ever taken a "sick day" from work where I just didn't go in because I was sick. I think in the time I have been with the company I work for (it will be 6 years in June) I might have taken one day once before. I remember being super sick with a cold once... but I am not certain if I stayed home or not. It is very very rare for me to be in bed... no feeling great. Yeah... that happens. I might even whine about it a lot... but so bad I can't get out of bed. No...

And thanks for the compliments on the tops and bag. I thought you might like the bag. ;)

Sorry to hear you've been sick. Very cute running outfits and love the purple running shoes. Zoe's outfit is cute too.

Thank you. Now if I can just decide what to wear. I guess I should factor weather into my decision too.

Love to see your running outfit before you go if you have time to take a picture! My sister and I are going to do the half next January so looking forward to hearing about your race!

Joining In!

Partly because it looks like our trips will overlap a bit, and partly because I am intrigued by the Princess Half Marathon preparation. I'm a month into a new fitness routine and want to keep adding more activity and incentives to do so.

I will be sure and share some pics before I leave... but I will be honest... I probably won't know for sure what I will be wearing until the day of. I feel pulled in different directions. My hat did come...and it does fit. It doesn't look to bad either... but it is a DIFFERENT purple again!! I like the skirt I made... so :confused3

:welcome:

I have never ever EVER stuck with any exercise routine. I have always carried a bit extra around my mid section... and before the birth of my youngest I was about 40 pounds heavier than I am now. Still, I never did much to keep my weight down. If I exercised or didn't... weight didn't budge much in either direction. So I really needed incentive to keep to something.

I was very very lucky to meet someone on dis who not only encouraged me to sign up for my first race event, but was there to support me along the way. From there, my incentive was to not let her down. I didn't want to hold her back when we ran our first Disney race together. Now, I have ran multiple local races. And they are definitely fun and will carry me through the year... but for me the... "once you do a disney race, you will be hooked!" is definitely true. So much fun and all the work in training will pay off when I get to do the phm!

So there are other disney races in the year you could plan for/train for. I signed up for the ToT 10 miler first and my training for that was a couch to 5k program followed by the couch to 10k (which was just a continuation of the first program..so i could have saved myself some cash if I had just bought the 10k program to start) Once the ToT was over, I just winged it for a while until I thought it was time to get serious in my half marathon training. I then got the couch to 21k program (which doesn't actually start you at the couch... but it is from the same company)

I am by no means an athlete or even a runner (although my family now will argue that since I do run without stopping or walking fairly large distances... month of january was a total of 92 miles) So for me these race events are the incentive to keep active. They are a lot of fun :goodvibes

Just wanted to let you know that I am still around...I know we text off and on during the week. But I am looking at your PTR! I am so excited for you! And you know what, I had to have the same incentive...because the scale is not helping keep me on track...so I have WDW in the fall, the race and YOU GIRLS keeping me going!
