In the face of dramatic Islamic growth threatening the cultures of the rest of the world, maybe the real goal in Iraq was never to promote democracy. What if the goal was really just to remove the barrier to the open sectarian conflict we are now seeing, with the intent of an open civil war between Moslems spreading thoughout the middle east, dividing the enemy and allowing him to destroy himself from within?

I hear a black helicopter outside, so I have to go now.

If that was the intent the President should have been honest with the American people and let the public communicate through their elected representatives whether they supported war for that reason before having a vote and going to war. That's what you do in a democracy.

A sectarian civil war was one possible outcome. It was the one that the first President Bush said in his book was the reason we didn't overthrow Sadaam at the end of the first gulf war. Some people disagreed with that decision. Now we have a chance to see that he was prescient.
