Maybe it's Just Me Pirates of The Carribean

Tokyo has a restaurant in the ride, too, and it's beautiful.

Anyone been there lately? Is it closed or not? I have not seen anything officially listed in the WDW guides.

Thanks

I'd like him to sit on my lap... :rotfl:

OK, we agree that there would be a bidding war to ride with Johnny Depp...I'd rather sit in his lap, though. The only other things I'd tweak on the ride is the sound quality. It seems so hard to hear any of what is being said--it all sounds muffled. Everything else at WDW is so loud and clear, what gives on Pirates?

I think the WDW POC should be longer. I grew up in So. Cal and went to disneyland all the time. In fact we just returned from going this past weekend. POC at DL one of my favorites. The first time i rode it at WDW, i thought, is that it?? There is only 1 short drop, where DL has 2, 1 long, 1 short. The DL one is a lot longer. I think the WDW one is way too short. And I agree, Walt designed the DL attraction-this is how he wanted it, the others put in the WDW one since he was not alive at the time. I wonder if the swapland has something to do with the drop not being so deep??? if so, they could have made you go up first, but i cant figure out why it is so short?? Also, we just went to WDW in May, and DL last weekend-The sign-Take a Wench for a Bride was not up in WDW, but was still up at DL-why is that???

Looks like some of you got your wish. BOTH Pirate attractions will be closing down in March to make way for their "new" updates. They are set to open July 7th, with new characters from the movie and a new story line. Personally, I will deeply DEEPLY miss the old attraction - the memories I have of it still make me smile. I'm upset that I will never get to relive them. I can understand changing the ride a tiny bit, but this seems to drastic to me. Especially the one in Disneyland, which, as it has been stated before, was one that Walt Disney oversaw himself. Goodness, the day they took away Mr. Toads Wild Ride from Disneyworld was a terrible one - but now this!

What are your oppions? Are you happy for this. Maybe I am just a stickler for the classic Disney that I remember from my childhood. It was more thrilling to have the movie based after the ride - not the other way!

I love POC the way it is, but the changes might be fun. I always enjoy going on new or different things. It makes going back often more fun.

But some changes are not always for the better. I hate the stitch ride, luckily I hated it before they changed it too!

I keep seeing everyone saying to leave it as is because that's how Walt wanted it but, Walt oversaw the building of the one in DL but, not the one in WDW. Therefore, I have no problem with making the changes to WDW POTC to bring it up to par with DL POTC. Adding another drop a resturaunt with a view of the ride and an upwards waterfall at the end doesn't seem like anykind of defacing to me. Also making an already existing animatrionic look like Captain Jack Sparrow is not disrespectful in my book either. :wave2:

In fact there wasn't even going to be a POTC at WDW, it was going to be some wild west ride. When the park opened the planned ride wasn't complete and so many guests asked about where the Pirate ride was that the management threw out the wild west ride and decided to go ahead with POTC, hence the differences between the original and the WDW version.

I have mixed feelings about the remodel. I think some change will do it good, just so long as it isn't over the top. I won't be able to give my actualy opinion until after riding the remodel, which will be some time from now as we will be there while it is down for refurbishment.

The ride as Walt intended it, is at Disneyland. The POTC at WDW is an abomination. It should not be refurbished. Instead it should be gutted and completely reworked to be more like the one at Disneyland. The drop is a complete joke. And there was only one of them. Meh!!! And once down the ride at the bottom isn't as long. Bleh!!! The takeoff isn't even close to the beautiful float around the Blue Bayou. There are many things about WDW that I liked better than DL, but this wasn't one of them.
If they have to, I'd accept the uphill waterfall after the float through the beautiful bayou so we could get the drops in and end up at the same level at the end of the drops they are now. Heck. They could even have a POTC character meal. HEHE. And they could offset some of the cost of constructing the ride by having a $1000 a plate dinner with one of the actors that played the main 4 characters. . That would fill up the phone bank at 7am.

According to the Birnbaum guides POTC is 13 minutes long in DL and only 10 minutes in WDW, so DL scores a point there.

The argument that the drop should be as big at WDW however, is ridiculous.

The drop at DL was a result of neccessity...clearance required to get underneath the railroad tracks above it.

As has been discussed by countless people on these boards over the years, the MK was built on top of the Ultilidors which were themselves built on the surface and not dug into the ground as a normal "basement" would be. Why? The water table in central Florida is extremely high.

Although I enjoyed the bayou entrance at the DL version, I have always thought the fort motif in Adventureland was a much more interesting and fitting theme for an attraction set in the Caribbean.

I hope the last poster is right, so there won't be any more or higher drops - I happen to like the 'little' drop, because that means I can ride it! I have a tricky stomach, :crazy2: and can't do roller coasters and most thrill rides.

Some rides are sacred and this is one of them, I love this ride just the way it is. I still cry when I walk by Mr. Toads Wild Ride.

I actually like WDW's POC better than the one at DL since the one at DL is a bit too long. I think DL's is better overall, I just like the ride length at WDW better. I do think POC will benefit from some new show elements and I'm looking forward to it. Should be real interesting to see what they do with it.

POC is a classic and other than regular cleaning and maintenance, IT SHOULD BE LEFT ALONE. For goodness sake, leave some of the original Classics that Walt had his hand in. Just my humble opinion.

I agree. They are starting to become advertisements for movies now.

Like a few previous posters, I grew up in California so spent a lot of time at Disneyland as a kid. As soon as we got into the park, did we run for Space Mountain or BTMRR? Nope...we RAN to New Orleans Square and POTC! No idea why, but it is still my favorite ride. That said, I was disappointed with WDW's rendering of POTC. What??? No Blue Bayou? It will be interesting to see what they do with it at both parks, but I do wish WDW's was a little more like DLs. As far as adding Mr. Depp, as a female, that makes me want to swoon, but I am still not sure it is best for the ride. pirate:
