Maybe a dumb question,

but I am a new member as of yesterday, and was curious. I was recently browesing on ebay for Disney items, and kept coming across DVC mechandise.
My question is, can DVC items be purchased at the resorts, or are these gifts given to members by DVC as perks. If they are perks, when are they given?

Both, there are some items like totes, etc that have been given to members at purchase. There are also DVC resort merchandise available in the gift shops (although that is dwindling as of late).

As mentioned, there is a dwindling of resort specific merchandise... you may see something with DVC on it, but it will be generalized.

Congratulations and welcome home. Besides the merchandice at the resorts there are items given out by DVC at different times. At the Merry Mixer around the holidays, an exclusive event for DVC members and their families, they give away a tree ornament with the DVC logo. On welcome home Wednesdays they have given away ball caps and a hat similar to a tilley that folds up. On the member cruise this year they gave us a music box, suitcase, water bottles, travel alarm clock, duffle bag, etc. all with the DVC logo. I have gone to different sales presentations and received DVC pens, notebooks etc. Hope this helps.

If you visit any other DVC resorts... check the gift shop... sometimes you find some different DVC items at different places.

Recently spent an entire day (within the last month) trawling all the DVC resorts at WDW for DVC "stuff", and can confirm that the merchandise for DVC members is woefully inadequate. For what it's worth OKW had the biggest "selection" that I found, and even that's not huge by any means.

Welcome Home and Congrats. I am new to DVC and bought some items on our trip in July but have purchased much more off of e-bay! As well it is a good place for resort specific merchandise that is becoming increasingly difficult to find.
