Maya Grill for dinner?

We are long time fans of breakfast at the Maya Grill (at CSR) but I'd like to hear more about dinner experiences there. We're tentatively planning on using the DDP there in December for a dinner. Any comments, advice or other suggestions? We are looking for dinner at a non-park restaurant that has something other than the ubiquitous steak, chicken, salmon that seems to be at all the resort restaurants. Maya Grill looks promising. Some of the more obvious choices and buffets we've done many times; like Ohana, Boma, etc. and some haven't been all that successful with the kids; like Cape May Cafe.

Last September we had reservations at Shutters at Old Port Royale based on an online menu, but cancelled because when we looked at the menu earlier in the day at the restaurant it was almost the same as everywhere else we ate that week....steak, chicken, salmon...blah, blah, blah.... boring, boring, boring.

So anyway, any suggestions?

The food at Maya Grill is pretty good but frankly, it is not anything special. It is mostly just your steak, ribs, chicken, and fish....the things you are ttrying to avoid. The two times I have been there the service was not good....so being I have given it multiple chances and the food is nothing special, I'd consider some place else.

Hmmmm, something different and a non-park.....some options I would consider that are not buffets or one of the real expensive places (like Ca Grill or Flying Fish)....

Spoodles....very good mediterranean dishes....

Kona Cafe....for dinner, one of the better kept secrets at WDW....

Raglan Road....my wife really loves this place and their Bread & Butter pudding for dessert is the best dessert on property...without a doubt. But the restaurant gets a lot of mixed reviews (mine included) but if you have not been there, worth a shot....

Good luck in finding a place.....

I agree with this. I've stayed at Coronado and have eaten here before. While there is nothing really to complain about, my meals have been forgettable. For a non-park dining choice I would pick the Kona Cafe at the Poly or Spoodles.

Thanks for the suggestions. Kona is a consideration, as is Spoodles. We didn't care much for Raglan Road, but might give it another shot someday. We felt like we were marginalized there because we had kids with us- given a table barely in the restaurant and not the greatest service. I think it would be better without the kids, but that doesn't really happen for us yet.

I like Kona. My dh would rather eat at Ohana, but the kids, inexplicably, have never done well there. In theory, they should love the place, but someone always seems to be unhappy there. My 12yo is a chicken wing fan, but hates the wings at Kona. I think we need to give this more consideration. Then again, I have a breakfast date there with some friends the same morning.

Spoodles we have, like Maya, only visited for breakfast. Our service was really, really slow... which kind of put us off on future visits. But we'll have to revisit the menu. An evening at the Boardwalk could be fun.

We may also reconsider Boma. I might be able to convince my dh just for the mango smoothie! My kids have actually done pretty well here, considering the issues we've had at other buffets. We like Cape May, but had a really bad experience there last time (nothing to do with the restaurant.... my youngest was just exceptionally unhappy and my dh had to take her back to the hotel.... she got sick the next day, so it was probably just that).

Thanks again, and I'm up for more suggestions!

Had a couple of great meals there, last time the service was bad.
