I am looking over my ADR's for our upcoming Aug/Sept. trip. We have Ohana twice and Kona once. I just read two reviews saying that Kona wasn't up to par. I have booked and canceled Kona 2 years running. I am thinking of canceling Kona and one of my Ohana ADR's (we love Ohana) in order to try an additional 2 new places. I love a "different" kind of menu and was impressed by Maya Grill (CSR), Turf Club (SSR), and Captain's Grill (YC). So, if you've been to any of the three, I'd appreciate your comments for or against each. I've always wanted to check out both YC and CSR for future stays so it would be worth the trip. I've heard good things about Turf but not to many comments on any of the 3. I appreciate your help. :surfweb:

The Turf Club is excellent, and I think the best Prime Rib steak I have had - anywhere. The restaurant was really laid back and my dds (8,5) had a great time. Afterwards, we went outside and took a relaxing boatride to DTD.

We ate at the Turf Club for the first time last month. The food was very good. We enjoyed the quiet atmosphere. DH loved his lamb dish. We will definitely go back.

We have been to CG three times - once for dinner and twice for lunch and enjoy that as well. We have taken the boat from both EPCOT and HS for a nice break from the parks.

We always enjoy several meals at the Turf Club....... lunches on the patio are relaxing and oh-so-tasty!:thumbsup2
Dinners have also been terrific. We love the quiet(er) atmosphere and the above average food choices.

I was thinking about CG on the day we are at DHS since we have such a hard time choosing a place to eat. We always go to DHS twice, once for Fantasmic and I may have to try CG the other time. What did you order, if you don't mind me asking.:goodvibes

Just so happens that the two days I have Kona and Ohana are DTD and DHS days. We could go to Turf and then to DTD. Thanks for the suggestion.:thumbsup2

Has anyone tried Maya Grill? I'd love to hear a yes or no about this one. :confused3

We've never tried the Turf Club or Captain's Grille (have booked for our next trip), but we did enjoy our meal at the Maya Grill last August. The restaurant had a nice ambiance and unlike many Disney restaurants, the tables were not on top of one another.:thumbsup2

I had taken some pictures for a dining review, but unfortunately, I never did one.

I started out with a perfect mojito:

and the waiter brought over a bread basket with a very taste herb dip:

My dh had steak and potatoes, which he loved

My dd and I both ordered the fried fish platter. This had fried shrimp, fried calamari, and fried salmon. We loved the shrimp and calamari, but salmon is not a fish to be fried. This was served with fries and fresh tomatoes that had a light vinaigrette on them that I remember dipping the fries in cause it tasted so good. The meal was delicious!

My ds had the steak tidbits kids meal with rice. He surprisingly ate a lot of it, so it must have been good.

The desserts were also very good.

I think this was carmellzied plantains with vanilla ice cream

This was creme brulee with fresh berries

We really enjoyed our meal here. The waiter was attentive and we never felt rushed. It was one of our favorite meals of our last trip.

We tried Maya Grill and we won't be going back. We waited a long time for our meal and when it did finally come it was cold. That being said, if it wasn't for those things I think the meal could have been good but the service left a lot to be desired.

We ate at the Maya Grill last September. The food and service were both very good; I would not hesitate to dine there again.

Just my .02 :)

We really liked Maya Grill, too. The margarita was nice and strong, the food was hot and fresh, and the service was beyond wonderful.

I had been having a bad day and flipped out on DH about our dinner ADR being too close to our nap time, so while the kids and I took a nap, he went to Maya and worked out a minor miracle.

He got an ADR, spoke with the chef about making me a cake (grabbed a bunch of cakes from Pepper Market, slapped them together, frosted the whole thing in whipped cream and white choc shavings and made it all pretty for me). Told the chef that I was learning Russian, and they arranged for a Russian-speaking CM from PM to come talk to me at dinner. It was one of my favorite moments of the trip!

Dani&TJMom thank you so much for the pictures! The steak looks yummy. I liked the saw the banana caramel dessert and thought that I would love to try it. I've always wanted to check out CSR resort. Glad to know you went in August since that is when we will be there.

I am a plate send-backer :goodvibes. If I am waiting and the food is cold, I will send it back....and sometimes follow it back to make sure nothing "happens" to the food. :goodvibes

:cloud9: Sounds like my kind of place. I love to have a magical experience, even during dinner. :thumbsup2 to you DH. Do people travel here from other resorts or is it mostly those who stay at CBR? I have heard nothing about this place and looked at the menu and thought it looked yummy.

Until the Maya Grill changes their menu, I won't be going back. Years ago my family went there for mother's day. Great food and service. At the time the food was as they say "nuevo Latino". A mix of Caribbean, Central and South American flavors. Loved it.

A few years later, my mom wanted to go there for her birthday. So off we went, and were surprised that the menu had been changed (aka dumbed down) to typical American things. (St. Louis style ribs??) So we got to talking with the waiter about what was up wit the menu... he said that the resort is a moderate priced resort, while the restaurant had deluxe prices. Another problem was that when people came in they expected Mexican cuisine and that was represented on the menu, but it wasn't the whole menu.

Ugh. The waiter must have really felt our bad vibes, and offered to bring out the chef. He sympathized with us and understood, and offered to make up some more Latino style dishes (of jazz up the current ones). We told him to knock himself out.

The food was great that day, but we can't always count on the chef preparing special stuff for us... I find it a shame that those decisions to change the menu were taken. The menu now looks like a most other menus out there. They have brought back a few Latin flavors (yucca fries), but not enough.

Perhaps the current food at the Maya grill is very good or excellent (I don't really know), but if you want Latin/Hispanic food at Disney, try San Angel Inn in Epcot or Bongos at Downtown Disney. Neither is 100% perfect place, but a sometimes a few black beans, avocados, and shredded pork and peppers go a long way.

Captains Grill is a very nicely kept secret in WDW; I personally love the place. We have been there twice and have found the service to be excellent and the food very good. However, if you are looking for an over-the-top themed restaurant this is not the place. It is nicely decored, but it is not what I would call themed. It is a nice quiet getaway from it all place and is in an excellent location if you just want to walk along the Boardwalk. :thumbsup2

I just booked the Captain's Grill! I like the menu. We are looking forward to this.

Not a Lebron fan???

I would leave Kona on. We had wonderful steak there. I like Captains Grille but DH thought it was very poor low quality steak with lots of fat.

I think you will like the Captain's Grill, it's a nice quiet sitdown with good food.

As for Lebron, of course living in the Cleveland area I was a fan of his talents on the court, that was until he tanked it in the playoffs (many will say intentionally). Even as a "former" fan of his, I never liked his arrogance, and his ego.

As the rest of the world will now find out, he will never be compared to a Michael Jordan again, perhaps a Pippen (second fiddle), but never a Jordan. ;)
