May not be the last we see of the Osborne lights...

I think there is a difference between someone decorating for the holidays and creating a public nuisance. IMHO the line is crossed when the display is attracting swarms of people from outside the neighborhood to the point that it impedes traffic or causes others to not be able to enjoy their homes because of the noise, excess light and/or crowds.

It is also against the law in some areas to put an ice cream in your pocket. Just cause it's the law doesn't mean it makes sense
That's true and we live in a representative democratic republic so you can help to change those laws that no longer serve a useful purpose. In the Osborne light case the laws made perfect sense therefore your example does not apply.

I disagree and am still waiting for a response on any of my questions I have asked you.

LED's are hazardous waste so they have to make special preparations before they can bury them in their landfill.
Yeah I'm sure that's the reason for extension. You keep avoiding my replies because I keep asking a simple question that for some reason you can't answer. You are literally the only one that hates these lights so much.

In other news the lovely Mrs. Osborne was there tonight for the final dessert party and was signing autographs.

Sadly Disney doesn't have a landfill at all my friend! What isn't composted or recycled is combusted and used to create energy to power then entire resort including over 5million Christmas lights!

CFL and LEDs are laced with mercury, lead and arsenic...they aren't burned for more energy

However, the EPA says that they have very low levels of these chemicals and it is perfectly fine to dispose of them in a landfill.

Actually, Disney buys most (~80%) of its power from the Southeast US power grid through long-term contracts. The remaining amount of power is generated by a gas-fired co-generation facility located behind the MK.

And then soon to be finished solar power plant.

Hopefully they will keep them. They bring so many people to the park at Christmas time. We go every year during the Holidays just for that show.

Either way the lights won't be trashed folks... They will be sent to the holiday services warehouse off property and re purposed around the resort. After all there are still regular old led xmas lights. Items supplied by the Osbornes (globe Angels nutcrackers) are rumored to be returned. Everything is will be recycled around the resort. Disney is a company built on environmentality, they recycle just about everything that's wasted out of that resort. There landfill waste is lower than most metropolitan areas.

Hmmm, 1.6 MW is a very small portion of WDW's usage. Certainly not a "great deal". Let me see what their latest total MW load is. I'll try to update this later.
Replying to my own post here. According to the latest available data from the Florida Public Service Commission, Reedy Creek's peak load in 2014 was 190 MW (which occurred in August) while their lowest monthly peak was 150 MW (March). Lets call that an average of 170 MW, which makes the power produced from that landfill about 1% of their total load.

Sorry but you're wrong again. They have neither the room nor the desire to make the room to store that huge assortment of lights. They may indeed keep a small portion of the newer lights for replacement Christmas decorations but the vast majority of the lights are going to the landfill. Christmas light sets are very susceptible to damage from the UV rays of the sun and the wiring harnesses must be disposed of and replaced to avoid fire hazards. Light sets in the greater Orlando, FL area that are not stored in air conditioned facilities are subject to more rapid deterioration.

I agree that WDW is environmentally friendly and they do their part to recycle as much as possible. But the main value of the light sets is in the content of their copper wire and it's just too expensive to extract the wire from the plastic insulation. It's cheaper just to junk the old lights. Sad but true.

They have had the light for 20 years how do they not have storage for them?

What gives with you? Do you work for Disney? Were you an Osborne neighbor?

Why do you hate the lights? Sure they caused problems at the Osborne residence but they don't cause problems at Disney.

i wish we had room out here at dl for them to bring them here. or maybe the golden oak ranch where they have and still occasionally do film for Disney out here
