A crawl sounds fun, but it doesn't have to be just on the the lower decks. I'm doing a Lupa Lupa crawl in September at WDW with others I have met on another forum. I'm looking forward to meeting others that I "talk" too on the internet.

I know we are doing a meet, but doing a crawl could be fun also.

I think a crawl sounds fun too. I'll volunteer our aft verandah room on deck 6.

On the lanyards, would someone like to volunteer to be the lanyard coordinator? :)

Have a great trip!

We are. Maybe those interested in taking the train on our own to Rome can all meet at, say 7:30 am, in front of Lumiere's and head out together? We have a tour booked at Vatican in the afternoon but other than that, our day is wide open. Probably hitting the Colosseum and Forum in the morning.

Travelbee yes that sounds like a great idea see you there :yay:the more the merrier

I love the lanyard idea

Jeff thank for the link fab info

I would be more than happy to do this Jeff. :)
Is it just getting everyones details and how many lanyards etc ?

Also TRAIN TO ROME
Carl and I are intending to get the train and would be more than happy to go as a group for the train.
We are hoping at the very least to see The Vatican, St Peters Square. Colloseum, Fountain and whatever else we can fit in.
Did think maybe about doing a Hop on Hop off bus frst of all to get a feel of where we were, but unsure about how long it woulld take.

Have a great Easter everyone.

I noticed several of the other Med cruises are doing lanyards with the acrylic badgeholders & name tags for the DISers so they'll be able to recognize each other on the cruise. Those that have cruised with Disney before are Castaway Club members and will get DCL lanyards/acrylic holders during the embarkation process.

For new DCL cruisers, plain lanyards and badgeholders are about 50 cents total US if 100 are ordered. We could take one of the designs tripodjw created and modify it a little to put people's DIS board name and first name on it.

Sooooo...what do you all think? Name tags, lanyards, yes/no?

Yes to the lanyards:)

On another note, Susan and I are hitting the road tomorrow to make our way to Orlando, FL for the Space Flight Honoree ceremony Friday night, Kennedy Space Center tours on Saturday, day off Sunday (Easter) (WDW perhaps?) and then STS-131 launch Monday morning (knock on wood). I'll be checking in from time to time though. :)

Have a fun and safe trip!!!:woohoo:

Hi all, I need some help on Tunisia not really sure what to do, I don’t really fancy any of the Disney excursions, so i was just wondering what everyone was up to that isn’t doing a planed trips. Can anyone offer any suggestions?

Also someone earlier on in this thread suggested doing Rome on the train as a group is anyone still up for this?

Hi Joanne,

We are doing the Medina and Carthage offered by Disney.

As the for Rome I think it is a good idea! We have a private tour setup.

Good luck :)

In 2008 we did a cruise on NCL and did the trip to Rome on our own. No planning just followed the herd and the herd is in the 100's. We took the express train to main Termini station then took metro to Colloseum and Forum. Metro again to Vatican City for Museums and St Peters. It wasn't to bad as we had planned fairly well. The biggest excitement was catching the train back from St. Peters. It is not like Termini where the train to Civitavecchia starts. Instead many trains both regional and Express go through San Pietro station (near St. Peters). There was only a couple of trains that we had to catch and there was no sure way to know if we were getting on the correct train other than to hope the correct trains came at the correct time. We hopped on the one we thought it was. Others took the train 7 minutes later. That train turned out to be a regional train and took much longer to get back to port. I think 15 people missed the boat. Disney gives an extra hour so that gives a little cushion.

In looking at this years train schedules those of us in the US have several choices. The Italian Rail only allows you to buy the Express trains in advance
this means taking the 501 train at 9:17 and a return of 6:07 from Termini I found the cost currently of 15 euros. This is more than I remember it so it may cost more to have a reservation.

I did find one site that lets you purchase tickets for the Regional trains and have the tickets mailed to us here in Hawaii for $10. I think this is what we will do. The cost is very similar and the tickets are good for later trains the same day if we miss the scheduled one.

We are planning on buying the regional train 2335 leaving Civitavecchia at 8:41 and getting off at San Pietro at 9:24. After touring St. Peters and my kids might do the Sistine chapel and the museums (once was enough for me). Then depending on weather and time we will walk via Trevia fountain and maybe Spanish steps towards the Colloseum and Forum stopping to have an authentic Italian dinner along the way. We know we can get a gelato back in Civitavecchi so we might do that before boarding the ship. We won't make it for our early seating but seeing the sites is more important.

We will catch the 6:16 train from Termini and arrive in Civitavecchia at 7:17 We should be back at the port by 8 and catch one of the final shuttles back to the ship. Total cost of train tickets and shipping to US is $86 for family of 4.

How does this sound to some of you other do it yourselvers

Jeff, I think the Lanyard idea is brilliant and I would be willing to fit some of the bill to do it. We could hand them out at our first meet. Could they be done in time? I need to begin working on my FE hanger.
A special congrats to all that got upgrades. I wish I would have known about the GTY thing before I booked my inlaws room but we wanted them near us so maybe it wouldn't have worked anyway. On a warmer note... Its supposed to get to 81 degrees this weekend in Tennessee!:dance3: Only 41 more days before we leave for Barcelona!
Im still battling back and forth about what to do in corsica. Does anyone know anything about Les Calanches? It sounds amazing but I have a 7 and 9 year old and Im not sure they will appriciate it as well. We thought about taking the petite train then hanging out at the beach but its late may and the weather may be too cool for a beach trip. Also, is this the same petite train on the corsica link as the Disney link? It looks like the one on the corsica link travels through town and the Disney one travels through the country side. Disney's also has a wine tasting stop. Any advice would be great.
I finally sat down with my Father in law and showed him the DIS board but I dont think we is planning on regularly checking up. There names are Larry and Bobi.

I have read the Les Calanches was one of top 1000 places to see in the world. That is the tour we are planning.

Wow - you have done your homework and the info is very helpful. I have browsed through the train schedule and found trains from Port to Rome pretty much every half an hour. We don't have a set schedule and want to leave things flexible since we have 3 little ones in tote. But our "plan" is very similar to your 2008 itinerary, except catching an earlier train back, probably 6 ish.
