Hi All,
We just found these boards and wanted to say HI! We are on the May 15th sailing too.. ME- Kerri (33), DH- Jeff(33), DD- Emma 3.. We are from Chicago. Looking forward to the cruise and meeting everyone- These boards and the cruise website created by Jeff have been SOO helpful!! I am sooo thankful to everyone who has posted!

We have visited some of the ports before so we are planning things a little different than some.. We are trying to stay away from museums due to our daughters interest level and find things to do that would be interesting to her as well as us.. zoos, parks and such.. things that are fun but also cultural..

Our plan is:
Malta- Explore the markets and republic street- maybe visit the marine park
Tunisia- not sure- want to see souks but not sure if brave enough
Corsica- walk around, beach maybe, take the little train tour
Naples-take hydrofoil to capri and spend the day there
Rome-take train to borghese gardens which has a zoo and puppet theater and also see the spanish steps
La Spezia-take the train to cinque terre- walking the first (easy) part then taking the train to verranza to eat and maybe beach for a while
Villefranche- hopefully beach in nice and also train to monte carlo

We fly in on Thursday and are spending an extra night on the end too..
good luck to everyone getting in to Barcelona.. I'm crossing my fingers that the ash stays away!!!

I used to take the Hilton shuttle to the hotel and get picked up there, kept someone from having to drive to the airport. Also have used high school seniors who were willing to make some money, we have a career center counseling staff who gave me recommendations, they also used to link me with reliable students to help out at our end of school year parties at the lake.
I'm a little confused as to what you're suggesting? Take the Hilton shuttle from where? I have no ride *to* the airport, not from... That student thing would have been a good idea if I'd've had time to research it. At this point, I think a taxi is my best bet... :confused3

Have a good flight! See you Friday!

Sayhello

I have now discovered my netbook (that is coming on the cruise) is "unhappy". The anti-virus (whihc we have as a benefit from work) is all messed up and prevents me doing anything. And it won't let me uninstall so i can do a clean install.

Nerg!

Taking it into work today hopefully the IT bods will be able to help. Fingers crossed.

Does anyone know how sticky hotels are with their 2-3 person max/room in Barcelona? We have 2 rooms booked but can fit into 1 room for the 1 night. We are staying at the Renaissance Airport Hotel, my kids are only 7 and 9. Anyone know? We would rather just all stay in the one room.

I think Renaissance is a Marriott brand. If so, you should have no problem. 'American' brand hotels don't usually follow European standards as far as room charges. Unless they have to put in cots or if you have breakfast included, in which case they will just charge you a per person surcharge. It is worth a call to ask.

FWIW, Thursday and Friday are holidays here in Duestchland (Feast of the Ascention, gotta love catholic countries). Should make volcanoe/stikes air travel interesting.

Safe travels to all traveling! :flower3:

Finally finished packing. I weighed the luggage at home by standing on the scale first and then with the luggage. Looks like both suitcases are around 47 pounds so hopefully that's accurate. Printed our boarding passes and checked into the flight. Now all I need to do tomorrow is work 1/2 day, get a haircut, finish the carry-on bags and hit the airport.

Well, good night to the Americans and good morning to the Europeans. Looking forward to meeting everyone soon.

You have got that packing down pretty good.

We have one bag at 49 pounds and another at 52, so have got to figure out what to remove & what can go in hand luggage. Think i'll be buying a mass of toiletries (e.g. suncream and showergel) at the airport after going through security screening.

I was even late to work this morning because i was busy weighing my bags and removing stuff then adding it back. I blooming hate packing.

For Cinque Terre we are either taking the 9:15 ferry

http://www.navigazionegolfodeipoeti.it/contatti.asp?lang=eng (website for ferry)

it arrives at the vernazza at like 10:55 (goes one more down cant remeber time)

or we are going to take the 10 o clock train and that gets in at 10 26 into vernazza.

plan is to go to vernazza and then train to corniglia and then hike to the next one and then train back....didnt want to push it by trying to do all 5 towns...i am so excited it looks amazing

let me know if you need anymore info

Hi jlwhitney

Is there a reason why you choose to hike between Corniglia and Manarola ?

Us we are thinking of doing the ferry til the last village (monterosso). Then take the train to Manarola. Do the "Via dell' Amore" between Manarola et Riomaggiore (It is the easiest path of Cinque Terre). Also thinking of stoping to Portovenere

Update on volcano things:

Madrid is closed today, as are some Southern Spanish airports. Fingers crossed it keeps drifting further north-west.

Seems like TA flights are being delayed as they are having to divert around the ash

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/8674241.stm

We leave tomorrow and arrive in Madrid Thurs. morning to connect to Barcelona. This is starting to worry me a little. Oh well, don't know what else to do. :confused3 Anne

We fly out tomorrow afternoon after making a connection in atlanta (with a 5 hour preflight layover)! Anyone on that flight?

Totally crazy and random question: Anyone know of a good self tanner? I just bought the new Garnier because I fell for the ad. And while it doesn't have that annoying tanning smell, it doesn't have the tanner either. Thanks!!
