So I have to book room only in order to do that?
Also, do you know if I book through AAA will I be able to get a better rate if it comes out?

Can you book now without a discount code, then when a code becomes available get the discounted rate??

You can only get the discounted rate if there is a room available at that resort.
Most people only book what they can afford, in case there aren't discount rates.

I'm copying this from susy post's in another thread because I think this explains it well:
The more rooms that are booked ahead of time, the less the rooms that will be discounted. Codes are not "applied" to your room. Your room is sold when you book it (at rack rate). When you get a discount, it's on a room that has not yet been sold. So, if there are no rooms available at the code rate, you pay the rate you agreed to

Thanks for posting this information. I'm always amazed how many folks don't seem to understand this logic If everyone is holding a rack rate room at WL, then WL has NO NEED to discount rooms. I've seen WL not offer discounts one year, and the next year CSR did not offer rooms--why, probably because they didn't need to because they were full of full paying guest. Remember the year that there were NO AP discounts for the entire month of September? I do.

I'm lucky right now because my husband gives his blood, sweat and ears to the mouse and we enjoy booking our discounted room well in advance. But let me mention, that even the discounted room for CMs for the month of May went VERY quickly and I've read many posts that there is nothing available at a discount rate now. One day I will be relying on AP discounts again for rooms, so am happy that they offer such nice discounts when they are available. But I know there are no guarantees, I see myself booking alot of ressies at the value resorts when that day comes. Good luck to all. I have several friends who are waiting for codes to be released, so I am watching for them so they can snag a code too. :earsboy:

Although it makes sense that there won't be discounts if to many rooms are booked, the CMs encourage you to do so,even when you tell them you are waiting for a discount to become available. I called about 3 weeks ago just to be sure there were no discounts available and the CM convinced me to make my reservation and wait and see. She said something should be out shortly and reminded me I could cancel the reservation up to 5 days before. It sort of becomes a waiting game,do you book and hope for a code, not book and hope all the rooms aren't taken when you finally get a code, and basically make yourself crazy checking all the websites daily(I'll confess, usually twice a day)!

This may be cynical and after all I am Eeyorelover22, but if I ran Disney World I would encourage bookings and train CMs that way and fill as many rooms at rack rate and only offer as many codes to fill the rooms needed to be the most efficient for a particular resort because as Cheif Mouse I want to make as much money as possible. I would think that WDW would know how many rooms have to be full and at what price to make money.

I am dying to book my 6 nights at PC that I need for this summer, but I am holding out for an AP rate. I sure hope all the hints are correct and we'll be able to get a discount sometime in the next few weeks. Now, if only decent airfares past 6/6/05 would open up!

The other side to that is by encouraging people to make reservations they already are planning to cancel, they have to deal with filling those rooms possibly at the last minute, when no codes come out and the cancellations start pouring in!I would bet that the day codes come out they spend alot of time on the phone rearranging peoples reservations in order to apply the discounts.

I think it's encouraging that someone posted that there were still rooms available for the March AP codes :)

Thanks for letting us know this. I will 'relax' for a while and hope to see something in March.

I am so sorry if someone has already asked this but...
what are codes? What are you talking about? We have resv. at POFQ for June and I would love a lower rate. Can you help? And how do you get them?
Thanks,
Kris

Discount codes become available at Disney's whim. They are typically for the general public; Annual Passholders; Disney Visa cardholders; etc. They are sometimes for "room only" reservations (saving you $$ on the rate per night) or for packages.

Codes have not been released yet for anytime beyond April 16 for the public, AP holders, or Florida residents. Many on this board are hoping they will be released soon. Once released, you will need to call Disney (or your TA if you booked through one) to see if you can have the code applied to your reservation. There are a limited number of rooms at each resort for each night under the code, so the sooner you call once released, the better. Hope this helps!

We want to stay at Yacht Club but can't afford to without a code. I hope they release them soon!

We're having to cancel our Cr ressie until codes come out. Can't have over $400 holding on our credit card at this time. Argh!!

For those experienced with codes, is there a particular day of the week that they tend to be unveiled?

Sundays....but I've seen them come out any day of the week! The codes for May will probably be out soon. It usually starts with pin codes...so....

Susy, I hope you're right. You were waiting last winter right along with me too!! It seemed endless. :flower:

I thought with how early they released codes for the general public back in December our wait would be over already. I hope they are out sooner than March otherwise I'm going to have to have my rear end surgically removed from my computer chair.
