ok where do i begin????? it's kinda long so bear with me.....

i have 2 sisters,2 bils, my mother, 2 nieces,1 nephew, 1 nephew in law, 2 great nieces, and 1 great nephew......

so today's my birthday and i am supposed to host thanksgiving this year, because its my turn. 15 people. so friday night i was soooooo sick. throw up, diarrhea, sweats, chills the whole nine yards. never got out of bed on saturday. so sat morning my sister comes to give my my bday gift and my dh says "she's sick in bed". ok her reply was "oh i'm outta here. i have a sore throat too and i don't need anymore." ok no problem there. still everythings good. no sunday am that same sister calls my mother and says she's having thanksgiving because nobody wants to come over here in the "germ" house. really. who's nobody????? she then calls my other sister and says " i'm having t.g. over here because everyone is sick over in "that" house" oh really. so 2nd sister calls me and asks if i'm still having it? and i tell her i am. i'm over what i had not sure what it was but t.g. will be 6 days away from when i threw up. i'm not an r.n. here, but thinking i should be over it. then married niece with the 3 kids calls and says "oh sure, we are still coming no problem."
so off to the grocery store i go spend $500.00 ( yup not a typo $500.00) and get home put everything away, feed son, give him a bath, read a book and off to bed. middle of the night ds has an asthma attack. can't breath. very, very, very scary. ok we get thru that and no thru the grapevine the words out that my son was sick. WELL. now the rule in my family is you HAVE to call on the persons birthday to wish them a happy one, so i get all my calls and sister #1 just leaves it at H.B. so I ask? are you coming or what? and she says "oh my daughter does not want to infect her kids with what your ds has!!!!!" are ya kiddin???????? i hope we call all be together for xmas. i was very calm and cool and said, "please go and have t.g. where ever you will be happy." and she said she was having it at my nieces. so now my niece calls and i she says nothing about her kids and infecting them. so i tell her what her mother said and then i proceed to tell her "ya know what, my ds will STILL have asthma on xmas- hate to tell ya".
i'm just so hurt. i can't even begin to tell you. i just wish they would have said something before i did the grocery shopping. are ya kiddin'? what am i going to do with a 23 lb turkey??????
happy birthday right?????
so in a nut shell- i threw up on friday and my son had an asthma attack and t.g. is thursday i have a TON of food, and i think a have a lousy family!
thanks guys i just needed to vent i guess. i just want to sit and have a pity party for myself. i can't stand to think that someone would think my son would "infect" them. really. asthma folks. ok. not catchy. :confused3
:sad1:

Lots of hugs to you PO3. I have a large family too. My DB and his GF are not bothering to come to the family dinner and my other DB and my SIL are fighting like a couple of 12 year olds. I love and hate the holidays all at the same time

That's just awful. Has any of your relatives ever hosted TG before? Do they just not understand the time and money spent in preparation? You definitely deserve to vent. Hope DS is doing well.

So sorry that your family is being stupid! As I was reading I was thinking... DUH asthma isn't "sick"...sheesh...

I wouldn't have a problem going to your house...

hugs to you!!! What are they thinking?? That's right they aren't...
Stomach bugs come and go.. does she not go to the grocery because guess what there are GERMS all over those carts and the canned goods, etc.. As for the asthma its NOT contagious.. good grief...and all this came about because your DH was doing the right thing by cutting her visit short when you didn't feel well.. Tell your Dsis to kiss your butt and enjoy your tg. with your wonderful family.. as for the turkey.. I bought a 23 lb one for 5 people.. we are eating turkey left overs for days.. why, we have a tournament for DS11's basketball team..and I'm going to have turkey manhattans one night and turkey potpie another night.. Your dsis is just being a brat... don't let her get to you...
You know what.. I'm with Deb.. I'd be right over.. wouldn't think twice about it... Wow! and do they not understand that there are germs at school too!!! :)
Lots of hugs!!!!! :)

Oh good grief! It sounds like either they have a case of "no common sense" or a case of "don't know how to listen"!! :confused3

I'm sorry you were so sick over the weekend, but I can't believe that your sister just decided to have it at her house without telling you! And presumably exluded you from the invitation since you were "germ-y". :( How rude! If that had been our family, we would have called to see if you wanted us to take your turn since you were under the weather, but to just do it?!?!?

And asthma?!?!? How dumb is that! What did the niece say when you said your DS would still have it at Christmas?

As for what to do with a 23 lb turkey...Do you cook the bones for broth? I shred my turkey now instead of serving slices, but I've found it stores really well in the freezer in the broth. Let me know if you need tips on how to do it. Also, leftover turkey makes great pot pies and they're dead easy!! Just a jar of gravy, bag of mixed veggies, can of potatoes & a bought pie crust and you're done! ;)

And again, I'm sorry they're being so...dumb!

Oh - and

I'll come over and eat turkey with you!!! Gotta love family! OY! Or you can pack up DH, DS, and yourself and come eat with me!
I would just get on the phone with everyone, tell them you're fine, DS just had an asthma attack and you're hosting. Period.End.of.discussion.

Seriously though you have 3 options with the turkey, 1) cook it. 2) freeze it for xmas. 3) donate it to a soup kitchen. (tax deduction)

As for left overs, Turkey in gravy is yummy.
Mix cream of mushroom soup, ground thyme, milk, a bit of gravy master in a pot. Heat it and dump the left over turkey in. Heat it through. Serve over toast. We have that every year!

Sorry things are going so lousy. That really stinks. I would've expected them to understand about the asthma thing. Families, ya gotta love 'em.

DD came home with some stomach virus that had her throwing up all evening and night. She stayed home from school the next day. We were just dilligent about using the disinfecting wipes and spray everywhere from the toilet handles and phones down to the light switches. Toothbrushes were run through the dishwasher. One bathroom was designated for sick DD, and everyone else used another one. It's been a week, and no one else has had any signs of it. I'm thinking we gotta be out of the woods now, right?

Do we need a turkey leftovers recipe thread? I've got my 23.75 pound turkey for a gathering of 6 adults and 6 kids. Since my sister and I each have to go to our inlaws for a lunch Thanksgiving and then to my house for dinner Thanksgiving, I'm pretty sure that we'll all be full enough that I will have plenty of leftovers.

Last year, I did lots of "once a month cooking" -type recipes and froze them. (I'm blessed with a deep freeze.) It was some work to prepare a lot of meals at once, but it was worth it because it was so handy. I use the turkey in any other recipe that would call for chicken. Turkey Tetrazzini is a favorite after TG dish here.

So, I'd host TG dinner. Whoever wants to come, can come. (And I highly recommend the bulk cooking idea with the leftovers.)

I am so sorry that this is happening to you. Wish I could come and help you eat that turkey.

Happy Birthday and enjoy the familly that will be by your side.

So sorry that your family is being kind of lousy - you have every right to vent! I heard this expression once and it's so true - the definition of a dysfunctional family is a family with more than one person in it. ;) I think we all have familes that can disappoint us with one thing or another. I second Faerie that holidays are both good and bad.

Try not to let it bother you - have a nice Thanksgiving with DH and DS.

Hugs! :grouphug:

Can anybody guess why I live in Ohio and the rest are in New York? Yup, I moved to a state nobody would WANT to visit.

I am so sorry about your extended family just not getting the bigger picture. Turkey freezes really well, so don't worry about the left overs. Enjoy the day you will have your immediate family.

Happy Birthday!!:flower3:

Vent away! That is just ridiculous! Just know your DIS family loves you!

You deserve to vent, I would be very upset if my family had done anything like that to me. I would do a final check of who is coming and then enjoy your leftovers once Thanksgiving is over. Your family is being silly- asthma can't be caught.

Rebecca

First of all :bday: to you!

Enjoy TG the way you have it planned, if Dsis doesn't show up, her loss.

Hope you and DS are feeling better, Happy Thanksgiving too!

Sorry to hear what has happened to you! Guess your dsis must be lucky to not have a "germ-y" family, huh? SEnding some :grouphug: your way.

Like the others have said, make the turkey and freeze the leftovers. There are so many recipes you can make--basically anything with chicken can have the turkey substituted in!

Have a great TG!:thumbsup2

I'm sorry this happened!! :grouphug:

I hope you had a good birthday yesterday! As everyone has said, enjoy Thanksgiving, and if they don't want to come, then that's their loss! ;)

 Families suck sometimes!:sad2:

Wishing you a happy birthday and a wonderful holiday seson!:goodvibes

Lewdyan hit the nail on the head, families do suck at times. I could tell you stories that you would be appalled at.

First of all, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! :dance3: (sorry it is a bit belated!) You deserve to treat yourself to something special.

As for the holiday, I would call everyone and tell them Thanksgiving is still on at your house, as planned. Afterall, you bought all the food, why would they think it would be otherwise. If they choose not to come, it's their loss.

I'll be over Friday for a turkey sandwich. YUM.

thank you all so very much for the support, kind words and birthday wishes.

i have soooooo much to fill you all in on, but have to run because i am so late right now but i can't get my butt away from this computer.

but i just wanted to let you know how much i appreciate ALL the support!

thanks girlfriends!
